FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
I may be a sucker, but unless the piano is more like a project than a tuning, I don't usually charge for extras. I let my work speak for itself and allow the customer to show me the worth of that work if they feel like it. If I have to order parts or it is beyond my expertise, we'll talk about it and I'll let you decide how you want me to proceed.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Once you hire me, I'll contact you to set up a time and get the address. You can text me anytime if you need to. When I arrive, I'll need to make a couple of trips to my car to bring in the tools I'll need. Then it's time to get started. :)
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
I had always been fascinated by the 'inerds' of my mom's piano when I was a kid, so when I inherited it I decided to start looking into how to get the best sound out of it I could. After studying DVDs from a well known tuning school in the Northwest as well as many, many professional online videos and manuals on tuning, repairing and rebuilding pianos, I started collecting the necessary tools to be able to tune and service it. Even though my mom is now gone, it is still 'her' piano and I didn't dare think about doing anything to it that would cause her to come back to haunt me. 😉 Since then, I have continued my self study and have gained experience by tuning and servicing pianos for various family members and friends as well as paying customers. What started as a hobby has been a source of great satisfaction and income for me.
