FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
The quoted rate is the per lesson rate for the requested lesson length. Tuition can easily be paid by cash, check, or online. Tuition is slightly discounted if you opt for the flat rate monthly tuition. The flat rate monthly tuition covers: *Instruction time with the student *Preparation/planning time for the student. *The opportunity to participate in recital/performance opportunities *The extra time and effort required to plan and prepare for the performance opportunities. *The planning, memberships, etc. required to be able to give students the opportunity to participate in various evaluations/competitions. *Studio costs, things like rent, instruments, studio licensed music, loaner music, music games, rhythm instruments, etc. *It covers the instructors training, experience, and continued professional development. It does not cover: *Recital fees (usually less than $10) *Fees charged by competitions/evaluations *Music books - method books, theory books, other music as needed *Fees if loaner music/games/etc. are lost or destroyed
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Students are welcome to schedule a free, no obligation introductory lesson. This is where new, potential students can come and get a feel for what lessons will be like. At this lesson you can ask any questions that you have, talk about previous musical training, talk about your musical goals, etc.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have been playing piano since I was a young child. I had an excellent teacher who made sure I had a solid foundation in playing piano and the music theory behind it. She mentored me in piano pedagogy and coached me as I began to teach piano. I continued learning by taking music theory, piano pedagogy, and private piano classes in college. I have continued learning by participating in local meetings and state conferences of the Utah Music Teachers Association, participating in various piano teachers forums on line, participating in on-line and live continuing education workshops, etc. I play the piano with the worship team at my church on a regular basis.
