I have tutored students in math for more than six years. I am dedicated to my students and passionate about helping them increase their mathematical understanding. I am well-versed in math subjects ranging from fractions to calculus, and I have worked with students from as young as seven to those in their mid-forties. I have also assisted multiple students in prepping for the mathematics section of the ACT. I can quickly determine a student’s strengths and weaknesses and develop lessons designed to address their gaps in understanding.
Students I have taught have dramatically improved their grades. I have seen college students improve their test scores by more than 30 percentage points, high schoolers resurrect their entire transcript, and junior high and elementary school students grasp seemingly impossible concepts. Furthermore, after working with me for several weeks, my students have consistently reported a jump of 3 or 4 points in their ACT scores. More recently, during the 2023-2024 school year, every single one of my students enrolled in a traditional public school reported marked improvement in their scores on assignments and exams.
When assisting students with homework and study materials for tests and quizzes, I can clarify concepts and point out connections. By identifying what concepts a student is strong or weak in, I am able to outline particular areas to prepare for an exam. I generally tutor one-on-one and in-person. Working individually allows for increased focus both for myself and for the student—particularly in comparison to larger tutoring companies where an instructor’s attention would be spread out. Moreover, I find it easier to follow a student’s work and identify their thought processes when not communicating via computer.
Finally, I believe any student is capable of understanding and even enjoying math, and when hired, I take it upon myself to ensure that their self-esteem grows alongside their comfort with the subject material. Several of the students that I have helped had previously been led to believe that they were incapable or even stupid, and I feel that it is a significant part of my role to change that perception. By aiding one-on-one, I can help students identify what they are and are not understanding so they can both learn from their mistakes and recognize how much they already know. Often, some foundational concept like multiplication tables or fractions is not as well-understood as it could be, and that difficulty has hindered the student’s overall knowledge for years. Thus, strengthening fundamental areas can have massive downstream impacts and help a student improve significantly.
I am confident in my ability to clarify math and make it enjoyable for even those students who have despaired at the topic. If you are interested in hiring me, please reach out here and we can discuss details. Thank you!
