FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
Tuning is $120, and pitch raises are an additional $50, plus tax. If it has been a few years since the piano’s last tuning, a pitch raise will most likely be necessary. I will do basic repairs for free along with tuning. I will give you a quote before starting any larger repairs, or refer you to a restorationist. My hourly rate for repairs is $120.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
We schedule a time and confirm on Thumbtack. You provide the address in advance, and let me know if you have any prior questions. I arrive at your door at the scheduled time. You show me to the piano. You clear off any items from on top of the piano, or give me permission to move them. You let me know if you have any particular concerns or questions, then I check the piano regarding them, and we discuss. I get started with tuning and/or repairs. A tuning may last one hour if the piano has been tuned recently, or approximately two hours if requiring a pitch raise, and basic repairs may take an additional half hour. After the tuning, I will test out the piano, then call for you or inform you as you prefer when I am finished. I will give you a quote and confirm before starting any repair that would cost any amount extra, so you will not be surprised.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Apprenticeship from a registered piano technician in the Piano Technician's Guild
