Was this a rip off? The tech claimed to find a gas leak and an exhaust leak and proceeded to shut off the gas, and asked for $580. I "smelled a fish", and thankfully hired a second licensed tech who showed there was categorically no gas leak. There was a minor exhaust leak, but it was an easy 20 minute repair with a $15 part from Home Depot.

The work quality was good. But the price was too high. I the job was to replace the evaporator coil that was still under warranty and replace the drain pen. I was in a hurry to get the problem fixed so I accepted the quote. I compared to other quotes after the installation. What I paid was the highest.
