I used STARZ for a partial bathroom remodel (new shower glass, new accent backsplash tile, cabinets painted, new fixtures), a range vent hood installed in the kitchen, a separate shower regrouted, and a ceiling drywall repair. The work occurred between March 16 and April 4, 2024. I deliberately waited a few months before writing a review so that it would fairly represent the work done and my overall feelings about it. Using STARZ started out as an A+ experience, but a lot of bumps in the road along the way turned into a C/C- experience in the end. Moments of excellent and attentive customer service were negated by not delivering on certain things. Moments of excellent handywork were negated by other moments of questionable service quality. I had to point out imperfections and mistakes in the work as it was progressing; things which should have been noticed and handled by crew foremen or the company representative during the daily (or more frequently depending on the task) routine inspection of the work. The Good: - No payment until work was completed - Two-year guarantee on labor - Tamer (STARZ representative) was courteous - Most of the workers were professional and courteous - Work started promptly - Majority of work was completed by the scheduled last date (small things remained that I ended up finishing/correcting myself) - Received partial discount to compensate for not installing the quiet-close drawer rails discussed during the quote walk-through - The new shower glass looks great - The fume hood installed over the range was perfectly centered and looks/works great The Bad: - Parts of the work had to be redone due to issues. This resulted in at least two extra days’ worth of work (probably closer to three days): o backsplash tiles cut unevenly which caused grout lines of inconsistent width o not all original grout was removed in the downstairs shower regrout job resulting in new grout essentially only forming a shallow skin on top of the old grout and wearing away o ceiling patch around vent hood had noticeably different texture pattern than the rest of the ceiling (I understand texture patterns seldom match perfectly, but I also know that pros know what is close and what isn’t) o all eight drawers from bathroom were painted without first removing knob hardware (removing knobs after paint had dried resulted in twisting of applied paint plus new knobs were smaller diameter anyway, so all eight drawers had to be re-painted) o newly installed cabinets which already had a finish from the manufacturer were painted over with white paint which then had to be removed after it dried o the mixing valve that came with the new shower hardware was not installed. The new shower hardware was installed with the old mixing valve in place o an internal part of the vent hood was not installed properly the first time. - One crewmember left master bathroom in an unacceptable state after work had finished in that room for the day (I’m not talking about construction materials left out or construction dust (which are to be expected with a project)) - Full-house cleaning was promised twice (once during contract signing and again after informing about the bathroom mess) but it never happened - Phoned and texted regarding the installed shower glass water barrier needing to be replaced due to not blocking water from splashing out on the floor during a shower. Tamer scheduled re-work for the week of July 15-19, but no show and no communication. Would I use STARZ again? It would depend on the price. You can tell by the pictures I attached that some quality work was done. Also, Tamer was certainly pleasant to do business with. However, for the money I paid, I would not expect to have to worry about the numerous issues listed above, especially no-shows for appointments.
