Hello I’ve been teaching full-time since 2003 with over 500 students ages 7-70! During my 15 year stay at a national music store, I had one of the highest student retention rates in the entire US. That means on average, most students who start taking drum lessons with me don’t stop! I think the reason is I utilize a curriculum with levels starting at beginner, intermediate, and then advanced. Students are able to measure their progress and can see the bigger picture, which then motivates them to keep moving up that ladder! The goal is always to keep lessons light, fun, but let’s get something done!

Brian is a great teacher. I have seen him play live and he is a total professional. In addition, he has a warm and outgoing personality and my son always looks forward to his drum lessons. Brian strikes the right balance of encouragement yet challenges the student to improve!

Brian is fantastic in identifying the strengths and areas for improvement for each student. He keeps lessons engaging, using music the students are enthusiastic about and allowing them to have input on their own assignments (assuming they fit within the skills he is trying to develop). He is gifted in multiple percussion genres from rock to jazz and everything in between. My student in particular struggles with being motivated to push himself in learning new skills, but Brian is careful to find meaningful ways to motivate him and encourage him to level up. Brian is also skilled in breaking down challenging techniques into small achievable steps, so no one gets discouraged in trying to meet large goals quickly. His curriculum is very effective in getting beginners up and running AND challenging more advanced players. That’s hard to find in a single private teacher (from my own experience as a musician who had to move from one instructor to another as my needs evolved). I could not recommend Brian’s services with more confidence or enthusiasm. He’s been invaluable to our drummer!

Fantastic instructor. Does an excellent job with my girls, they have learned a lot. Very patient, great at making the lesson fun. Brian even takes the time to go over the lessons with the parents, explains what was taught and gives a detailed analysis of our daughters progression. He always keeps us posted and lays out the path moving forward. Couldn’t ask for a better instructor.

FAQs

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
My pricing is typical at $35 per 30 minute lesson. However, I will happily do a first lesson Free of charge so we can all decide if I and the student are the right fit.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I always ask #1 is why are you here? What is the motivation to actually sign up for drum lessons? Was it a band, a certain style of music and drumming style, or maybe a friend or relative who plays drums? Or maybe a 6th grader wants to start percussion in school? How this question is answered dictates the direction and flow of the lessons which vary slightly student to student!
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I graduated from Musicians Institute in Hollywood, CA. I also play about 150 shows a year in a variety of bands here in DFW and all over the US
