- What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
1st you have to ask yourself why you need a guitar teacher. Learning on your own is very limiting and super frustrating. A very, very small percentage make it past 6 months. Those who do often plateau in their skills and never become as good as they wish that were. It is way too easy to quit when you don't have the accountability and support of a professional. I meet people all the time who have guitars sitting around collecting dust in the corner. If this describes you then I know you've felt the discouragement that I've seen in so many people. But things can change. What to look for: FUN! Yes, fun. If it's not fun why would you keep going? If it's fun then you will have a higher motivation level and that will keep you going. Personally I like to have fun, don't you? Look for a teacher that will help you clarify what you really want to do. I try to do this before people even come for one lesson. If you don't have a target, then there it's really hard to aim. I can help you with this. No cookie-cutter guitar lessons! Playing the guitar should be a fulfilling personal experience. Unfortunately most teachers treat it like a formula. Everyone is an individual and learn in different ways.
