FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
I have a monthly tuition system which runs $250/month for a 60-minute lesson once a week (except for a few studio holiday weeks). And I offer a couple of rescheduled lessons per semester for when conflicts pop up. For 8th graders and below, I offer 45-min lessons for $200/month, though the 60-min ones are recommended. The tuition also includes some fun free "extras," like a newsletter and a free zoom office hour every month for extra help. I expect students to use their time slot every week, and give sufficient notice for a reschedule if they can't. To withdraw from lessons, I require notice by the 15th of the current month to avoid being charged for the next month. This gives me the courtesy of some time to re-book a student's time slot or rearrange my schedule. For last-minute illnesses, I am sometimes able to reschedule without the 48- hour notice, as long as I am notified earlier in the day that a student is ill. Full lesson policy will be sent to all new students during our first 30- minute "sample" lesson, which is free! My private students also receive discounts on any flute camps, classes, flute choir rehearsals, recitals, or other flute related programs that I offer!
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I love to have a short (30-minute) free sample lesson with new students! This allows for some "getting to know you" time, and gives you the opportunity to tell me all about your flute goals and your musical journey. It also allows you to make sure you will be comfortable working with me as your teacher, can hear what my expectations for you will be, and then have a chance to decide whether we are a good team. I will then match your current playing level to some appropriate flute exercise books and flute pieces, to get you playing and making strides right away! You will begin to receive weekly assignments to practice and work on between lessons, and I will hear you play them for me at the next lesson. For online lessons, the sample lesson is also a great time for us to talk about some technological troubleshooting.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I began studying flute in middle and high school, and took my passion for flute playing on to college. I received my Bachelor's Degree in flute performance from the University of South Carolina in 2008, followed by my Master's in the same field from Boston University in 2010. I have also attended prestigious music programs such as the Brevard Summer Music Festival. Since graduating from college, I have continuously gained work experience in both the education and music performance fields. I perform frequently with different groups and have a thorough command of the instrument. Throughout my teaching career, I have worked with children as young as toddler age, all the way up to adults. I have owned my own private lesson business for 8 years now and have been constantly learning and perfecting my teaching practices. I have become very adept at communicating with each student in a way that matches their unique learning style. Additionally, I am very experienced in teaching group flute classes and running student flute ensembles. I was an arts entrepreneur at the Savvy Music in Action summer program at University of South Carolina in Summer of 2015 where I took classes in Music Business.
