This is the worst experience I've had on Thumbtack. In the beginning "Grout Smith" came out and provided an estimate on how much it would cost to grout and seal my entire bathroom. Please note; the bathroom is only 5 years old from a new construction build. I was quoted $900 to do the entire bathroom and shine and buff etc. I was like, ok why not since I'm doing the floor anyway. Once onsite: I was advised the substrate underneath should be completely removed and they have to contact someone to bring the correct grout color. I received a call they wanted to charge me 9K to replace all my tile. This is laughable at this point. They replaced maybe 2 x 2ft area of grout and disappeared and no follow-up calls.. I've posted on Thumbtack for a followup. Basically this company kept my $450 for an incomplete job with no follow-up on a partial return or full return of my $450. I will be reporting this to my credit card company.

Details: Bathroom • Tub / Shower enclosure • Crumbling, stained, or missing grout • Loose tile(s) • Natural Stone

The Grout Smith's reply
Hi Victor, we refunded you $450 deposit immediately the day after the visit on site. Your floor was coming up with just a cleaning due to water getting through the tile. To do it the correct way it needed to be fully replaced. We didn’t think we should have gone forward with our work when we predicted it will fall apart in the near future. New construction often doesn’t last long when other contractors (like the one that built your bathroom) cut corners.

The person who came to do the work was courteous and professional. However the person John that initially gave me estimate neglected to tell me there is no guarantee your grout will be cleaned, The reason given my tile was old. That should have been explained at time contract was being drawn up, not after work was being done. The floor looked no cleaner then when I mop it which is daily. I would have rather replaced flooring if that fact was brought to my attention. Be aware if you hire this company.

Details: Bathroom • Floor • Less than 25 sq ft • Ceramic • Yes, I already have the tiles
