When they finished, I told the two men who came on short notice, that they would get a five-star rating. After they left I took a good look at their work and found it to be less than I had hoped. I see now that I should have requested a "finish carpenter" rather than a "handyman." The task was to reinstall a hood in the cabinet over the range. The cabinet was made for a 29 inch wide hood and the hood I had was the standard 30 inches. Modification of the cabinet was required. Unfortunately, in removing a piece of the cabinet, a kerf was cut in the adjacent cabinet and the cut surface was left very rough. I think a different tool rather than a something similar to a "saws-all" would have been more appropriate. When they finished the hood was tight against the cabinet. They did a superior job of mating the hood's exit duct with the existing ducting exiting the house. They were very pleasant men to have working in the house; they treated each other with respect, as they did treat me. I will definitely consider hiring them for more routine work; I'll look for a finish carpenter when cabinetry is involved. I have attached a photo of the kerf in the adjacent cabinet.
