Introduction
Hello, This is Miss Xiang. My students like to call me Xiang laoshi or Feifei Laoshi (Ms. Feifei)
I was born in China. Chinese Mandarin is my mother language. I lived in Beijing for my college and worked for more than 10 years before moving to the USA. Now I am an Oregon State certified preschool teacher and a private piano teacher. I also run my own K-5 grade Mandarin afterschool program.
My class( no matter on-site or online) are always full of songs, traditional nursery rhythms, and games.
For advanced level students, I like to bring Chinese into their everyday living life to make them think a 2nd language is not just a kind of skill to help them get a better job in the future but is very useful RIGHT NOW.
For the beginning level preschooler, I prefer them to split their 1-hour class into 2*30 mins classes every week. It makes them focus more and gives them more days to practice.
BTW, just attend a 1-hour class every week is not enough for learning a new language. All my online classes will provide after-class practice videos, storytime videos, online songs, lesson resources to keep your kids busy every day.
If your kids are studying Chinese at school but need a tutor to give them more support, I will help them finish their homework and give them more resources related to their curriculum.
After every class, I will send out a summary to let the parents/guardians know what we learned today, what is our future learning plan, and where to get more related learning resources. The class recorded video will be provided by asking.
My goal is to set up an engaging online learning environment and make my students be proud of learning a second language.

Miss Xiang is clearly a seasoned preschool Mandarin teacher. She engages both my kids 3 years and 6 years old. (They both attend Mandarin Immersion school.) This is especially difficult with the 3 year old over Zoom. She understands children and does not get frustrated. She plays games to get them to learn and incorporates a bit of social emotional learning as well. I'm hiring her regularly to help with my kids Mandarin learning over the summer.

We've had great experiences in Miss Xiang's in person as well as distance learning classes. My son, who is 5, enjoyed learning Mandarin from her a lot when we were able to meet in person, and was always proud of his achievements. I was impressed he learned how to say 1-100 with a good Mandarin accent in a matter of weeks. Miss Xiang incorporated many games and activities into her classes, and my son would look forward to her classes each week.
We continued with Miss Xiang via distance learning since COVID, and she has adapted to teaching online well. She always comes prepared, and was willing to problem solve to make learning in this difficult environment work. Getting a 5 year old to attend is no easy task, but through games, song, and activities, we are seeing learning continue. I also appreciate the extra efforts she does in making the lessons individualized and interactive, and she also provides materials after class for us to review.
