- Drum Lessons in Portland, OR Metro Area - I don't just teach - I set an example for my students. Empowerment and inspiration are what motivates the hard work it takes to be a great musician. I cater to my students' learning styles and interests - prioritizing individualism and fun in every lesson! If you are a hobbyist and just looking to have a good time, welcome! If you are a dedicated musician looking to get to the next level, welcome! Whatever your inspiration is, I am glad you are playing music and would love to meet you. ALL AGES ARE WELCOME! One of my specialties is preparing students for college auditions, jazz band auditions, and helping advanced students become pros. I am an adjudicator for middle and high school jazz band festivals, and work as a jazz drum set and rhythm section clinician at many Portland area high schools. I have students who made it into the Oregon All State Jazz Band, placed in State-level competitions, and have successfully prepared students for admittance into Berklee college of music and other similar prestigious music schools. I graduated Cum Laude from Berklee College of Music with a Bachelor of Music in Drum Set Performance. I have studied with Dick Berk(Billie Holiday, Cal Jader, Jazz Adoption Agency), Bob Gullotti(The Fringe), Tony "Thunder" Smith(Jan Hammer), Jackie Santos(Tavares), Jeff Stout (Trumpet for Buddy Rich Big Band), and Henrique De Almeida, to name a few. I have a great studio space for lessons in the Beaverton/Aloha Neighborhood (near Aloha High School). I also travel to student's homes in the Portland Metro Area if it works with my current route. Please inquire about travel lessons vs. studio! DISCOUNT: Multiple student discount available. Corey is an amazing educator. I booked him to teach my 14 year old son how to play the drums and he has done so much more then that. The crazy thing is we live 2 states away. I was nervous about online lessons, but Corey has perfected it. He has the equipment, expertise, and experience to provide an in-home drum lesson while being 500 miles away. It’s as if he comes to our house work with him. Corey is an amazing example of hard work and commitment. He is honest and dependable. He expects the same from his students and this creates an environment of success.

Corey has been teaching drums to my children and me for the last 1.5 years. We have all had a fantastic experience with Corey and always look forward to what we'll be learning next. Corey brings a great energy to his lessons. He's enthusiastic, patient, encouraging, and super talented. Due to his education at the Berklee College of Music and his professional experience playing drums with touring bands, he offers his students a unique learning experience covering multiple genres of music and spanning music theory and practical drumming techniques. He plays several instruments and finds ways to tie his knowledge of those instruments to his teachings about drumming and how the instruments complement each other. He communicates well with students of all ages and always provides encouragement to us as we work on mastering challenging skills. Corey is tech savvy and supplements his lessons with online videos that help his students learn drumming skills. We've enjoyed learning the fundamental elements of drumming and how to extend those to more complex music. I was really surprised to see how far we had all progressed after just a few months of lessons with Corey. All three of my boys were able to start playing drums to popular rock, pop, and jazz songs within the first year and they've felt confident enough to perform in front of live audiences on many occasions. We feel so fortunate to have Corey as our teacher and can't wait to see what another year of lessons will bring. We recommend him highly!

My son has been a student of Corey Foster for two years and is steadily improving his skills as a drummer,.Corey has the expertise range for all levels of students. Corey helped us find a drum set when we first started that will take my son through the highschool years. We appreciate Corey's willingness to travel for lessons so we can miss out on the traffic! He is always on time and reminds me (the paren) of when there is a lesson time change. He is a great role model for our son to see how it can work to be a musician today.

RATES: -Beaverton/Aloha Studio - $60/50min -Travel Lessons - start at $65/50min (availability and price depends on location/time/proximity to other students that day)
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
The more I know about a student the more I can cater to you! I ask questions like "what's your favorite band," "what attracts you to drum set, specifically," and other questions about previous drumming experiences. Then I schedule lessons, confirm location option(studio or their home), and then we're ready to start lessons!
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I graduated Cum Laude from Berklee College of Music in 2014 with a Bachelor of Music in Drum Set Performance. I have studied with Dick Berk, Bob Gullotti, Tony "Thunder" Smith, Jackie Santos, and Henrique De Almeida, to name a few. I was also awarded the 2014 Avedis Zildjian Scholarship/Award by Zildjian and Berklee College of Music during my last two terms in college.
