FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
My pricing is usually considered to be on the low side of current pricing in the construction industry. I offer a 10% discount on labor costs to veterans, retired & active military as well as to seniors above 65 years old.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Once I purchase their information on a job they want done I contact them thru Thumbtack and offer my phone number as a more direct contact method to expedite things if they prefer. If they have blueprints or exact dimensions and scope of work or say a picture of a hole they need fixed they can send me I can often price over the phone or on the site. More often I come give a free estimate at the home or business where the said work is to be performed. I make a list of materials needed and either add their price to labor costs and pick them up or if the customer wants to purchase materials at a specific place they can pay for them and have them delivered to their home or business or I’ll meet them there and haul them to job. I give them labor costs up front which will only change if work is added. On a job that can be completed in a day I’m usually paid when the job is done. Jobs that require multiple days I usually ask for 25% of the labor only after we have all the materials there and we have an entire days work completed as “earnest money” and the balance is paid upon completion. On framing jobs that need to be inspected I’m okay with the customer holding 10% of the labor until they have a “passed” sticker on the framing labor from the building inspector in their municipality. I’m okay with cash, check, Cash App, Apple Pay, and Venmo.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I hung Sheetrock and taped, finished, & textured drywall every day for two years in the 1990’s. I framed new custom homes and commercial buildings every day from November of 1998 to September of 2010. I built wind turbines and worked in the oilfield from September of 2010 through January of 2018. I started doing remodeling/add-on work on both commercial and residential projects in February of 2018 through present day consisting of demolition, custom framing, exterior trim & siding, exterior doors & windows, insulation, sheetrock, drywall taping/finishing & texture, interior doors and trim, painting, sanding and staining cabinets, doors, screen rooms, etc., laminate & vinyl floors, ceramic tile, vanities, countertops, installation of new lighting, ceiling fans, & other fixtures and other specialty projects for clients such as saunas, custom hot tub enclosures, pergolas, custom decks, patios, & balconies. I built a Lincoln Log Company (same as the toys from the 70’s) custom log cabin with three of my friends that was MASSIVE and was 100% handicapped accessible downstairs. I framed, sheetrocked, and level 1 finished a huge indoor marijuana grow with 12 foot ceilings inside of a gigantic metal warehouse building for a lawyer from Baltimore.
