FAQs
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Every year I attend the Piano Technicians Guild convention. There are ususally two conventions per year that are available. One is held in our 5 state region and the other is the PTG Convention held in various cities across the country. Classes are offered on every aspect of piano technology from tuning and in-home repair to comprehensive rebuilding classes. Opportunities to meet industry representatives from manufactureres to suppliers are available as well. This helps me stay current with the latest in piano technology. The piano is over 300 years old but the technology keeps changing.
- What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
I am a Registered Piano Technician and a member of the Piano Technicians Guild, Inc. To obtain this credential I took a series of exams including a written exam, a Tuning Exam and a Technicial Exam. Many piano technicians are self taught or took a correspondence course. Because I have subjected myself to peer review through the PTG Exam process my customers are assured of competent piano service. Customers should ask if their technician is a Registered Piano Technician.
