FAQs
- What types of customers have you worked with?
I most commonly work with my clients to update their home, often incorporating many of their existing "treasures" into the design, showing their furnishings to the best advantage. Then we often add pieces for a complete and exciting look. I also love showcasing clients' own art and accessories in "fresh" groupings or placement, making them feel like new again. I also give them color palette options - sometimes just a new wall color will dramatically improve the look of their home! I have also worked with "new build" customers, helping them design their entire home from beginning to end, creating flow throughout. I love talking with my clients to determine their wants, desires, and how they function on a daily basis in their home - that's why I say Amy Gordon Design combines flair with function!
- What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
When hiring a design professional, it is important that they really listen to you! You want a designer that works with YOU in mind, not one who is pushing their own agenda and style. Great designers will work with you to create a space that fits your personality and needs, while giving you guidance, resources, and exciting ideas in the process! Often a designer will be spending some time in your home - you want them to be respectful, you want to be comfortable with them (a good "fit") and you want someone you can trust to maintain your privacy. When I am invited into someone's home, I consider it a privilege and just like an attorney or doctor, I take confidentiality very seriously! Many of my clients have been referred to me by their friends or colleagues. I make it a rule NEVER to discuss other clients' information. Finally, be aware that "free" designers offered through home furnishings stores are paid through commissions, often suggesting higher priced furnishings and decor.
- What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?
Hiring an interior designer can actually save you money. As an experienced designer, I help you avoid costly mistakes and also know where to get the best deals on furniture and accessories! If you have photos of rooms you like, this helps me better pinpoint your design style. Thinking about your needs and desires prior to the initial consultation helps.
