FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
I wish to be paid in cash for the first two lessons. Check is OK after that. Discounts for multiple lessons can be discussed after the first lesson. I do charge extra for traveling to your location, but rates are reasonable since I don't use gas (my car is fueled from my home's solar electric power!).
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I first hear you play. If you don't have a piece prepared, I may ask you to play a scale or to repeat a simple phrase by ear that I play. Then we can talk about a plan, incorporating the musical styles your're interested in.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I took classical piano lessons continuously from age 8-18. At Oberlin College I continued studying piano along with pursuing my science major. In engineering graduate school at OSU I studied piano in my spare time with the esteemed Richard Tetley-Kardos, and then expanded to jazz studies with Dave Wheeler and Bradley Sowash in Columbus. After the many years of taking lessons I was able to reap those benefits and move on to actually performing the music that I love! I have performed with musical theatre groups, swing jazz big-bands, vocalist groups, as well as dance companies. My musical performing travels have taken me from Chicago to NYC, from Wash. D.C. to Tampa, and from Brazil to South Korea. Currently, I play piano for a church (Light in the Woods). I also play as needed for the Short North Stage theatre in Columbus. Pianopeddler.com is my mobile musical performance business which combines my passion for music and tinkering with electronics. It enables me to make music anywhere, anytime!
