FunJazz Piano Lessons
Introduction
I started teaching as soon as I graduated from Berklee College of Music (summa cum laude) in 2007. My vocation is to help you discover the fascinating worlds of rhythm, harmony, and improvisation, and apply them to the styles/repertoire you love the most.
For those of you who are looking to study remotely, I have all the necessary equipment for online lessons (keyboards, a microphone, mixing board, and GarageBand/Logic to produce fun play-alongs for students to practice with!)

I had the good fortune of finding Jim Furnell online several months ago on another web site, and my overall experience taking jazz piano theory lessons with him has been excellent. If you want an instructor who can give you a solid understanding of why jazz sounds the way it does and how to apply that understanding so you can create your own distinctive jazz sound, Jim is your man. He has an extensive knowledge of music theory and is highly technically skilled at the keyboard. He has has the ability (often lacking in many instructors) to explain the underlying and often complex principals of music in a very understandable and immediately applicable way to his students. As an example, rather than just having you memorize various chord voicings and or scales, Jim will will teach you the underlying relationships between them and how to utilize these relationships to be creative in your own playing. In addition to his technical skills, Jim is also very personable. He is very easy to talk with and he carefully listens to your questions and gives straight forward understandable answers. In fact during one of our lessons, he turned one of my questions on chord voicing into a full one hour lesson. It was extremely informative and I was able to directly apply the material he explained to a song I was working on. Jim created personalized lesson plans after telling him about my goal, and helped me to get there step by step. I very much appreciated his patience and passion for teaching. He is such an easy going person and easy to talk to. He knows so many different styles of music!

I highly recommend Jim as a Jazz piano teacher. He is very talented and very flexible. If you have a personal goal, he will definitely work with you to achieve it. If you are not sure of what you want to accomplish, he will direct you with expertise. In case you have doubts about studying online -- it works. Jim has a tremendous ear and can detect a one-note error in a multi-note chord. My sincere advice is "go for it."

He is very kind. I'm Japanese but Jim's lessen is easy to understand. I like his lessons.
