About
With a command of biomechanics and acoustics of vocal production I aim to help students along a path toward functional, effortless and lasting technique. "Technique" can sound scary but I love helping students understand their voice so that they can clearly communicate as an artist! I am jazzed about a holistic approach to performing which is why I incorporate functional breathing and brain-body connection techniques into my sessions for deeper discovery. Certifications & Areas of Study: Vocal Pedagogy | New York University Vocology | NYU Langone Medical Center Functional Breathing Instructor | Oxygen Advantage Walt Fritz | Manual Therapy for Voice and Swallowing Disorders Here's my bio: Philip Skinner has completed extensive training in vocal pedagogy and vocology at New York University with NYU Langone Medical Center and remains active as a flexible performer of classical, CCM and theater music. He has performed at such venues as Rockwood Music Hall, The Duplex Cabaret Theater and Gotham Hall in New York City as well as being a collaborator and back up vocalist for Grammy nominated artist Chandrika Tandon. Some of his favorite music theater roles include Insomina (Dan) at the Workshop Theater, A Funny Thing Happened…(Hysterium) for LOOK musical theater, Mary Poppins (Von Hussler and dance ensemble) for Reagle Music Theater and The Drowsy Chaperone (Robert Martin). He has served as a cantor at Church of the Holy Innocents in midtown Manhattan and is experienced in singing chant and liturgical music. In addition to his private studio he has taught at such places as NYU as adjunct professor of voice, Professional Youth Theater and Musical Arts Center of San Antonio. He currently serves as a Singing Voice Specialist in collaboration with Weill Cornell Medical Center, Mount Sinai Voice Clinic and other area otolaryngologists and SLPs.

Philip is amazing! He has opened my mind to so many aspects of my voice that I have been missing. I am an EDM vocalist/recording artists and needed help! Philip has such a great knowledge of every aspect of singing and has helped me already after only 2 lessons. I am so excited to keep working with him and grow as a vocalist and artist.

I started taking voice lessons again as self care. I had lost a lot of confidence with performing and wanted to get back to the basics and remind myself of the tools that I knew should still be accessible to me. Working with Philip has exceeded my expectations. He has helped me unpack some of the negative self talk that had become habit. We've identified triggers and he has helped me work around them. Philip is quick to recognize when an exercise isn't clicking just right for me or when I'm getting frustrated with myself. He is quick to encourage me and pivot. Philip has introduced me to many new tools and exercises that are easy to implement in my warm-ups, solo performances, and choral singing. So grateful to have the opportunity to work with him!

Had my first lesson with Philip today and it went great! He is really enjoyable to work with and explains things very clearly. As someone who has really bad stage fright and general fear of singing in front of people I felt relaxed and comfortable which is extremely rare for me. I will definitely continue to work with him and highly recommend him to anyone considering taking lessons. 😁

Thanks so much Julio! Glad you felt comfortable. Looking forward to more sessions
