~ NYC Voice Teacher • Providing Online & In-Person Lessons ~ I am a working professional voice teacher, songwriter and performer working with some of the best vocalists on Broadway. While the foundation of all good singing is classical training, I am proud to focus on ALL styles of singing with a focus on contemporary musical theatre and pop. I specialize in helping singers eliminate tension and find their own unique voice. I will help you develop healthy breathing techniques, understand the science of how your voice works while finding your power, expanding your range and ultimately building your confidence. An informed singer is a powerful singer. For musical theatre performers, I can help build your audition book with competitive song selections and cuts as well as assisting high school students with the college audition process. I have had much success seeing my high school students get into their dream collegiate musical theatre training programs. My daughter had a virtual lesson with Michael and was very impressed. We were not sure what to expect and if a virtual lesson would work but he was excellent in navigating through how to setup quickly. He walks you through various vocal exercises that he explains why and the mechanics of everything. He was very professional and we already see improvements after the first lesson. We are so happy to have found a vocal coach that she looks forward to working with.

I've studied with many voice teachers and I can say without any hesitation Michael Mott is one of the best! He's able to listen to someone's voice and know exactly what they need to do both physically and vocally to produce the best sound possible. I love that he incorporates feldenkrais work in every lesson, he emphasizes the importance of using your entire body to sing. He also creates a comfortable environment for the singer, I never feel self-conscious in a lesson because I know the only thing he is focusing on is what I need to do to sound my best. Not only does Michael have a deep understanding of the voice and body but he is also a trained actor who understands that singing isn't just about the voice but about telling a story. Michael is honest and knows how to get a great performance out of anyone. I highly recommend him as a voice teacher!

I have worked with Michael many many times, and I would recommend him in a heartbeat. As a musical director, his focus is on precision, diction, articulation, and technique. No note is spared and every rest is given its full breadth. He is especially skilled at working with people who have trouble with music, working with them and offering unique ways to approach a piece and not quitting until they've reached their top potential. As a voice teacher, he has helped me on numerous occasions with his extensive knowledge of Feldenkrais. His breathing and slow relaxation techniques have saved me from a couple dark patches. I have also watched and listened in on lessons as he teaches, and there is almost always a consistent stream of laughter accompanying the music. He has a way of putting his students at ease. A friend who took a class from him says she was unable to open up to any of her professional voice teachers, feeling intimated and embarrassed, until she met Michael. BFA in Musical Theatre. Worked as a professional actor/ singer for seven years. Member of Actors Equity Association. Advanced Member of the BMI Lehman Engel Musical Theatre Writer's Workshop. Voting Member of the National Recording Academy (GRAMMYs). Composer/ Lyricist/ Singer/ Songwriter with three full length studio albums plus many singles and EPs available worldwide. Have worked with some of the best vocalists on Broadway.
