Experienced singing teacher based in New York with 14 years of experience. Whether you’re a beginner or an advanced vocalist, I provide tailored voice lessons both in-person and online. Please note that I only wish to receive genuine requests, as we pay for leads.
I teach in New York City, either at a studio located in the heart of Chelsea or I can come to your home for a lesson.
As a versatile instructor, I specialize in jazz, vocal improvisation, pop, rock, soul, and everything in between – except classical. With a thriving professional career as a composer and producer, I've traveled the world performing and have released three albums of original music. I've had the honor of collaborating with some of the industry's top singers, including legends like Bobby McFerrin (as part of his faculty teachers at the Circlesongs School), Meredith Monk, Theo Bleckmann, Gretchen Parlato, and Becca Stevens, among many others.

I had the wonderful opportunity to take singing lessons with Professor Manuel Linhares for about 3 years. Even now, several years later, so many valuable moments and lessons come to mind: from more keen observations on the technical aspects of singing (breath support, resonance, posture, diction,…), to the practice of rhythmic and melodic exercises that challenge you out of your comfort zone, to the importance of embodying a song and its lyrical content while performing, to the love and appreciation I gained for Jazz and the space it grants for improvisation, just to name a few.
Just being able to train my ear by improvising on a song has been unbelievably important, even when it comes to my songwriting. I am very grateful to have learned and grown alongside Professor Manuel.

I truly enjoyed having singing lessons with Manuel for over 2 years. First, the structure of the lessons was very appropriate. As we would warm up, we already started working on my listening capabilities, but also on the biggest challenges I faced with my voice. Thus, the first minutes of the lessons were already totally adjusted to my specific qualities as a singer. We would go on and work on further difficulties with dedicated exercises that Manel would come up with. We would then work on chosen a theme, analyzing not only the melody and harmony, but also the lyrics and how to interpret the text when singing. The most challenging, but rewarding part of Manuel's lessons, was when we would improvise either on the theme we were working on, or literally at random (but with some structure). Improvising with Manuel was such a great way to put my voice to work, and was super fun! Overall, had a magnificent experience delevoping and growing with Manuel. Thank you!

I had the pleasure of taking voice lessons with Manuel Linhares, and I couldn’t be happier with the experience. As a beginner student, I valued the different vocal exercises followed by his insightful feedback and encouragement while fostering musicality and expression. I was always eager for each lesson, both online (during lockdowns) and in-person since I also felt my knowledge of jazz music and the underlying culture growing.
