Gabrielle Hsu Piano Teacher

Gabrielle Hsu is a NYC based pianist and piano teacher. She is a recent graduate with her Masters in Piano Performance at the Manhattan School of Music under the tutelage of Professor Alexandre Moutouzkine and is a graduate of the New England Conservatory of Music where she studied with Victor Rosenbaum and HaeSun Paik. She is a laureate of competitions such as the 2022 Hartford Chopin Competition, 2022 George Gershwin Piano Competition, 2021 New York Artists International Competition, 2021 Prima Volta Music Competition, and 2019 William Knabe International Piano Competition. Gabrielle has performed in recitals in the Netherlands, Poland, New York, and Boston. As a piano teacher, she has worked with students of varying age and skill level. She was a teaching fellow at the New England Conservatory of Music from 2019-2021 where she partnered with Boston Hope Music, giving lessons to Health Care workers during the pandemic, and the Boys and Girl Club at Charles Sumner Elementary School where she gave piano lessons to 3rd graders. She currently maintains a private studio in New York City. Teaching Philosophy I believe that my role as a teacher is to motivate each student to reach their goals and potential. Every student is individual, and my job as a teacher is to provide the knowledge to help facilitate piano technique and inspire creativity in music-making. Above all, while not every student will go on to become a professional musician, I strive to instill a love of music and piano playing in everyone in my studio Studio Offerings The studio offers private lessons both in-person and virtually. Rates remain the same for both types of lessons. Aside from working on specific pieces and technical skills, topics such as theory, music history, and general musicianship will also be covered as necessary. Consultation or Trial Lesson Before enrolling in lessons, a short interview with the teacher will be scheduled, for no charge. Studio Policy Tuition Tuition will be charged on a monthly basis and the amount will vary depending on the number of lessons scheduled. An invoice for the month will be sent via email by the 15th of the previous month and should be received by the 1st of the given month. A late fee of $30 will occur if tuition is not received on time. Cancellation Policy Students are allowed three make-up lessons in the case of sickness or other scheduling conflict. Another lesson time will be offered in a timely manner. If a student is unable to make up those lessons or cancels more than three lessons per year, they will still be responsible for the lesson fee. Payment Options Tuition for the month may be paid through venmo, zelle, cash, or check before the end of the month. Virtual Lesson Procedures Virtual lessons are generally conducted over FaceTime. In the case that an Apple device is not available for use, there are other virtual platforms that can be used, such as Zoom and Skype. It is crucial for devices to be at an angle that can provide a full-length view of the keyboard and view of majority of the student’s body, especially the hands and face. Camera should be at a horizontal angle and devices should be fully charged prior to the lesson. In the case the teacher does not have access to the music the student is learning, the student is responsible for sending scanned copies of the music prior to the lesson. Virtual lessons require adult supervision for students who are ages 6 and younger to make the lessons run smoothly and to assist with any technological issues. Studio Recitals Studio recitals are special events in the year that allow students to highlight their progress and accomplishments! Students practice hard all year and have the opportunity to play for their friends and family, as well as build confidence as a performer. Participation is encouraged for all students, but not required. All pieces performed must be memorized. For students who do not wish to participate, they must notify the teacher 1 month prior to the recital. A recital fee will be charged to each student the month prior to the recital and will appear on the invoice.
