Over the years, Shop With Val has styled hundreds of men and women including clients that are petite, plus size, dress modestly, need maternity wear and are looking for everything from workwear to casual wear, special occasion and bridal. We offer a range of services from Closet Consultations, to personal shopping and styling sessions, creating lookbooks, and even offer style workshops. We truly are your one-stop shop for all your wardrobe and styling needs. There are so many things we love about our job... 1) The diversity of our clientele. Shop With Val's portfolio consists of over 300 clients ranging from ages 12-80 and sizes 00 petite-24, spanning 22 countries! 2) We love helping people. Whether we're working with clients who live abroad or locals on a seasonal basis we love getting to know our clients, staying in touch with them to see how they're enjoying their new purchases, and seeing the impact our services have on their lives personally and professionally. 3) We get to do what we love! Although many people find it strange that we enjoy going through people's closets and shopping for hours on end we truly love helping people make sense of their wardrobe and feel good about themselves. We enjoy sharing our passion and skill set with others to make this dreadful task for many efficient and even enjoyable!

I recently hired Shop with Val to help me prepare for a new job that required a work wardrobe overhaul. Val was amazing in every way. She clearly has impeccable taste in fashion, but also upholds the highest standard of professionalism, patience, and kindness throughout her process. She expertly blends her clients' wants and needs with her own wealth of knowledge. I decided to start with the closet consultation service so Val could help me take stock of what I needed most in the work department. As soon as she stepped into my apartment, Val was nothing but kind, sensitive, and professional. She never made me feel the least bit shamed about my closet and she created a comprehensive list of items to prepare us for the shopping trip to come. Then came the big shopping day. It was by far the best shopping experience I have ever had! Val took care of all the no-fun parts like swapping sizes and searching through racks. When I walked into the dressing room at the start of our session, she had already prepared a huge selection for me to choose from. All I had to do was try on! This made the quality of the experience so much more enjoyable and efficient. By the end, I came away with 40+ new items! 6 weeks later, I still have new clothes to wear to the office and the joy over my new wardrobe has not worn off. I haven't been this excited to get dressed since I was a teenager and I have Val to thank!

I have used just about every one of Val’s services- wardrobe cleanup, in-person shopping, online recommendations, and putting together a look book, and have benefited from all of them. My main motivation was that I don’t like clothes shopping when it’s something I have to do— it’s stressful and time consuming. I was rewearing the same things all the time because I didn’t like most of what I owned, and the items I did wear I always wore the same way. Before finding Val I tried Stitch Fix and Trunk Club with pretty poor results. I also tried free personal shoppers at department stores but I always felt like I left having paid for stuff that didn’t look good on me, likely because they got commission for everything they sold me. Then I found Val. I think it was super helpful to start with the wardrobe consult so she could see what I already had to work with, get to know what I liked, and see how things looked on me. It also motivated me to get rid of a ton. I wanted to rebuild the majority of my wardrobe so I did two separate shopping trips in two different seasons. It was so much better than the free department store experience- she doesn’t get any commission so doesn’t hesitate to tell you what doesn’t work, and taught me about how to wear stuff- like how to dress the same top up or down or take it from work to a date after. I love that I can just flip through the look book on my phone and pick out an outfit without thinking about it, but if you have to do without a service that’s the one I think I got the least bang for my buck for—I would have liked to get more outfits put together for the price. 10/10 recommend!

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
Unlike many competitors, all of our rates are available on our website, shopwithval.com. There are no hidden fees. Wardrobe updates are available for $460 and include up to four hours of shopping. Other services like a Closet Consultation are offered at a flat rate of $395 (including up to 3 hrs) and a Home Rescue Visit (2 hr in-home session to build you a lookbook) is offered for $260. The best part is that if you are interested in more than one service or looking to work together on a regular basis, we offer a number of discounted packages that allow you to save up to 25% simply by purchasing your services together.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
When working with a new client we like to learn as much as we can about them so that we can customize a plan that is catered to their needs. We send new clients a detailed questionnaire so that we can gather information regarding style preferences, measurements, and budget. This information allows us to select stores and designers that we feel would be a good match.
How did you get started doing this type of work?
In 2010, our CEO, Valerie, was hired to help a friend in need after she had put on some weight and found herself in a style rut. After just a few hours together, she walked away with tons of new pieces that she kept saying, "I would have never picked this out myself, but I love it!" She was standing up a little taller and full of smiles and confidence. After having great success with her friend, Valerie realized it was time to put her shopping and styling skills to good use to help others the same way. A few months later, Shop With Val was born.
