I am an elite reading and writing tutor for those who aim high. I am here to make my students excel. My ACT students, who began with a score in the 20s typically score in the 30s. My SAT students have an average 200 point increase in their verbal scores. My students do well on the PSAT and many have earned National Merit Scholarships. I also tutor TOEFL to high-achieving students who are applying to selective schools and who are aiming for a score of over 100. I tutor the GRE verbal and essay portion. I can help you excel in the CARS portion of the MCAT and in the verbal portion of the GMAT. I tutor for the Hunter College High School test, the ShSAT, the SSAT, and the ISEE test. Olya Thompson tutored my son on his essays, and this is his opinion and his words about her work quality: "There is a saying that goes, “A Jack of all trades is master of none, but oftentimes better than master of one.” Most individuals, be they masters or up-and-coming apprentices, are often confined to becoming extremely skillful in one particular skill, trade, or craft. Ms. Thompson, however, from my experience as a student with her, was a master in everything related to putting together and perfecting college essays. You see, Ms. Thompson is not like many other people I came across on Thumbtack when searching for a writing tutor, many of whom would only be able to offer basic, surface-level services like sentence restructuring and grammar checking. Ms. Thompson is a person who is extremely well-versed in numerous literary elements, from those pertaining to creative non-fiction writing, like purposeful word choice, writing expressively, and creating complex ideas, all the way to literature’s more logical and arguably tedious qualities, like syntax, basic grammar, and the refinement and “trimming” of ideas. She makes sure however, to make the writing process a seamless and memorable experience. Most importantly however, I was very grateful for her ability to “get the wheels running,” for lack of a better phrase.
