Hello all, my name is David. I was raised in Queens, New York where academics and athletics were integral parts of my household. My father was a professional water polo player and my mother comes from a large competitive tennis family. I was Introduced to a variety of sports at the age of 8, where I dedicated my efforts mainly towards tennis and basketball. I played recreational tennis in Alley Pond Tennis Center while being involved in travel basketball leagues such as NY Junior Knicks and Long Island Lightning. Talented in both sports at a young age, I decided to focus on tennis and began playing competitively when I was 10 years old.
Coming from humble beginnings, I received a lot of sponsorship during my competitive junior days by tennis academies that offered amazing tournament training programs for top talents such as Reebok Junior Tennis Academy, N.Y.J.T.L (New York Junior Tennis League), and Randy Mani Tennis Academy. Throughout my 8 years of academy training, I have been ranked top 20 in the Eastern Conference section for each age group from 12U, 14U, 16U, and 18U. Representing my high school, St. Francis Preparatory School, I was a two-time singles finalist for the New York City Mayor’s Cup and a one-time doubles champion. For my varsity team, I played #1 singles during my junior and senior year and contributed to the success of my school’s 3 consecutive CHSAA titles.
During my collegiate years, I played Division 1 tennis at St. John’s University while pursuing a biology degree. Here I quickly realized the difficulty of balancing the strenuous practice schedule and academic lab hours. After a full year, I transferred over to the City College of New York where I played #1 singles for the Division III school. I earned several achievements such as CUNYAC Rookie of the Year, CCNY Most Outstanding Player Athlete, and the Athletic Academic Honor Roll each year. I finished all three seasons and remained undefeated with a 23-0 record and earned the Lionel Malamed Award. I graduated with a bachelor’s of science degree in Biology and would later complete my M.B.A in Accounting and Business/Management.
I've worked in the corporate tech world as an account manager full time and spent summers teaching in some of Long Island’s prestigious country clubs as an Assistant Director where I contributed to the development of the local junior talents for the last 10 years in the north and south shores. As of 2018, I started my own private logistics company in Los Angeles while also doing what I love most, living and breathing tennis. As a seasoned instructor with a keen eye for technique and strategy, I use my motivational skills in improving many students of all ages, constructing long term relationships, and assisting those achieve their short/long term goals on the court. I have spent the last few years honing the skills of advanced junior players at the local tennis academies in the Westchester/Connecticut regions, and currently a tennis director for a prestigious country club in Riverdale, NY. I look forward to meeting new future students where I promise to not only improve your game, but also fall in love with the game of tennis.
