FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
Pricings are usually set, however, if the job calls for it I will often include other minor work for free. For example, If I was tuning but I noticed a few sticky keys or squeaky pedals, I would fix those up for no extra charge. Depending on location and transportation, I occasionally charge a small travel fee to be determined upon discussing the appointment location.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Typically, after setting up the appointment date, I will send an email or a text walking the customer through the tuning process and what they can expect on the day of the appointment, as well as answering any questions they might have about their piano. At the appointment, I will provide a condition report on the piano and let them know what my suggestions would be for the future, as well as offering my advice on how they can best upkeep their piano between tunings.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Initially my relationship with the piano was one of performing. I graduated The New School with a degree in jazz piano performance. Around the same time, I also graduated from the New York School of Piano Tuning, taught by the master technician Lou Tasciotti. Since then, I have been employed by Mannes School of Music (The New School) as a piano tuner/technician, making sure the pianos there are in top shape for the next generation of musical talent. Additionally during that time I have been working privately, servicing the pianos of families, musicians, recording studios, hotels, and other institutions.
