Introduction
I have over 30 years of performing and teaching experience. Mostly, it is my wide range of musical and vocal experience that sets me apart from other voice teachers/coaches. I was classically trained in voice and performed extensively in opera and musical theater. But I also grew up in the 60s learning to play instruments in rock, jazz, pop, folk, country and other styles as well. I was a founding member of a nationally acclaimed contemporary a cappella group that for 17 years explored all things voice - an experience that expanded my vocal knowledge exponentially and where my diverse musical background really got to reach its potential. I focus on technique and performance, and have some great exercises to help you get a good, consistent tone, wider range and more control. I will help you bring out your best performance focusing on delivery and musicality. I have had success with lessons via skype and facetime, so remote sessions are something to consider if distance is an issue. I hope to hear from you! - Ed - serioussinging.com I am passionate about my work and get great satisfaction in the progress my students make.

Ed is an excellent vocal coach who can cater to the needs of many students. I came to him with no former training and he helped me to develop my voice and knowledge of singing. I enjoyed our lessons and I would definitely recommend him to anyone looking for a knowledgeable and personable coach.

Ed has a great understanding of the voice. We had several informative discussions during my lessons about the anatomy and mechanics involved in creating a pleasing sound, the difficulties involved, and exercises to improve upon it.

I was very new to the music world when I signed up for basic lessons in singing on thumbtack. I took at least 15 lessons in three months with Ed Cohn. Beginning with breathing exercises, Ed has taught me very helpful vocal exercises using vowel sounds, Ed also taught me ear training techniques using Solfège. Ed also encouraged me to buy a keyboard to further improve my tone/pitch matching skills. I also learnt a thing or two about reading musical notes, understanding music scales, chords and rhythm.

I took voice lessons with Ed for about a year. I was extremely pleased with the outcome. Ed taught me to control my voice by teaching me techniques to aid in projection and vocal quality. Now, almost two years later, I'm reminded of his methods when I sing. Thanks, Ed!

Mr. Cohn has decades of experience as a singer and teacher, and it shows in his insightfulness and enthusiasm about vocal arts. I came to him knowing barely anything about singing, and in 2 months of regular classes I've gained a strong sense of my voice, its strengths, and what I can do with it. I'm looking forward to exploring what further months will do. He has a wide-ranging appreciation of music genres, so, despite having most of his professional singing career in opera and especially a capella, he has delved adeptly and creatively into rock (my preference) and has r&b and other leanings as well. If you can adjust to his rather modest studio, you'll definitely have in Mr. Cohn a very versatile, skilled artist and guide with a long lifetime of music appreciation to assist you, whatever your goals.
