FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
I generally offer both 1-hour lessons and 30-minute lessons. Standard rate is $60/hr, $45/half-hr, but I recognize that lessons can be a luxury and am open to discussion of rates.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
The first lesson always consists of a conversation in which we talk about the student's history with music, both as a performer and a listener. We then talk through any concrete goals the student may have for the lessons and usually play either a piece or conduct an improv activity. As I get to know a student better, I custom build them a practice routine that plays to their interests as well as their potential.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I studied music at Harvard University with Vijay Iyer and Yosvany Terry, and I also attended the New England Conservatory, where I studied trumpet with Steve Emery (formerly of the Boston Symphony), the great Laurie Frink, and legendary jazz trumpeter John McNeil. I also worked with Jason Moran, Dominique Eade, and Jerry Bergonzi. My teaching training has included working with the Harvard University Music Department and the Portland Youth Philharmonic's Mentor Program in Portland, Oregon.
