Introduction
I am a professional sitar player based in Brooklyn NY. I currently enjoy a multifaceted career, performing Hindustani classical, cultural collaborations, and with my genre bending trio Compass Trio. I have been playing the sitar for 15 years, 8 of which was didn’t in New Delhi, India where o moved in order to authentically honor this tradition. If you are looking to dive deep into Hindustani tradition, or merely understand the concepts and practices for your own music I am the teacher for you! Playing an Indian instrument is not required

Galen maintains a calm patient tone with children and is able to easily shift through notations in both Indian and Western classical music (sitar and guitar) without lecturing on the merits/demerits of either; which is a trait I deeply appreciated for my American son with Indian roots.
Sitar being really bulky and difficult to transport, Galen offers convenient home visits within NYC for an extra charge to those who have their own instrument, in addition to lessons at his place for those who need to use his sitar instead.
Also vouch for Galen's professionalism and punctuality. Would recommend.

Amazing! Highly recommend. Such a high and clear knowledge - and communication of Raga music. Thanks to Galen I was able to really understand the fundamentals of some Rag’s and their mechanics. Thx Galen!
