Introduction

I am a guitarist, composer and educator with a bachelor's degree in music from Berklee College of Music and a master's degree in Jazz Performance from Hunter College. I have recorded and put out multiple albums as well as performed all over the country playing with indie rock bands, jazz ensembles and everything in between. I teach students aged 10 and up and welcome all levels of experience from total beginner to more advanced players. My focus is teaching the language of music through songs. We will focus on melody, different types of chords, scales and how they relate to a given song, improvisation concepts and technique. I teach from my home in Crown Heights, Brooklyn as well as virtually. I look forward to working with you and helping you become a better guitarist and musician!

Working with Ben has been such a pleasure. I'm a beginner to guitar and he is really great at introducing a digestible amount of concepts in each lesson. Ben is a fantastic teacher! He's an accomplished and highly skilled musician but more importantly he's a thoughtful and attentive teacher. My lessons with Ben are tailored to my skill level and goals. I'd been playing for a while on my own but had plateaued in my abilities. Ben's lessons have helped me expand my skills and have made playing much more enjoyable. He offers technical advice that actually helps! My 15 year old daughter has also been taking lessons with Ben. He's very patient with her and I can see her confidence growing after her lessons. I highly recommend Ben as a teacher!

I charge $80/hr for lessons from my studio or virtual. For $100/hr I will come to your house for lessons if preferred.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I like to learn about what interests and influences a student has and go from there. I've found that approaching musical concepts and technique through songs and favorite styles is a great way to further understand and play the guitar.
