Introduction
I have over 25 years of professional studio and stage experience, including nearly 15 years as the lead in the percussion show STOMP. I teach ALL ages, ALL levels, ALL styles. I cater my lesson plan to each student, with an emphasis on appreciation and enjoyment of music for the beginner students, and with a focus on time, feel, and part writing for the intermediate/advanced student. If you want to learn to read music, I can teach you. If you don't, we'll put our focus elsewhere.

I love getting drum lessons from Jason. He’s patient, flexible, understanding and a great teacher. Due to personal problems I haven’t been able to give as much attention to practicing at the moment but I’m in such a happy place whenever I have a lesson or I practice, that I know for sure this is a lifelong hobby for me. I’ve learned concepts from Jason that were difficult for me to understand before and I’m looking forward to learning everything in the drum work book he recommended. Just this week I’ve mastered what he last taught me and I can’t wait for my next lesson to show him. Thank you Jason, see you soon.

Details: 45 - 64 years old • 0 - 2 yrs of formal training • Can't read music • Traditional drum kit • Rock • Classical • Blues • Jazz • Folk • Yes, the student already has drums • 60 minutes • At the pro’s location

I hadn't picked up drumsticks in years before Jason helped me fall in love with music again. He did a fantastic job of giving me universal tips that can be applied to all of my playing rather than just a single tune. In just a few months, he helped me to put together an audition and ultimately get accepted into school to persue music. I have nothing but great things to say about Jason and his teaching!

Details: 18 - 25 years old • 0 - 2 yrs of formal training • Can read percussion notation • Can read sheet music • Understands note durations and rests • Traditional drum kit • What the teacher recommends • Hand drums (bongo, conga, etc.) • What the teacher recommends • No, but the student is planning to purchase drums and would like the teacher's advice on it • 45 minutes • At the pro’s location

As a gigging drummer with 25 years’ experience, I was looking for new ideas and concepts for when I practice and perform. Jason has exceeded my expectations. He’s a creative teacher who understands what I’m looking for and incorporates fresh ideas into each lesson. I highly recommend him for drummers of any level.

As a beginner drummer, I needed a lot of input in the equipment that I bought and Jason gave his expert advice and provided resources in a very prompt manner. Jason has come to my lessons with professionalism and kindness which has allowed me to try new things and co create my lessons with him. In addition to sheet music and visual aids, Jason also suggests great songs to play along to in my free time! I highly recommend Jason to anyone because not only does he have a wealth of percussion knowledge, he is able to teach a range of ages with enthusiasm and leadership.

Details: 18 - 25 years old • No formal training • Understands note durations and rests • Traditional drum kit • Hand drums (bongo, conga, etc.) • Bass drum • Snare drum • What the teacher recommends • Rock • Jazz • Folk • Country • Blues • Classical • No, but the student is planning to purchase drums and would like the teacher's advice on it • 60 minutes • Remotely (phone or internet) • At the pro’s location

I am a Drummer, Producer, Composer, Engineer, Studio Owner, and Teacher who has been living and working in New York City for the last 25 years. Originally from Loudoun County, VA, I was hired in 1995 to be part of the (then brand new) NYC cast of the Off-Broadway show STOMP, and I've worked on and off with the show ever since (primarily in it's lead role). In addition to thousands of shows at the Orpheum Theater in NYC, I visited 12 countries on 5 continents with STOMP, and starred in the DVD version of the stage show: "STOMP Live". Other STOMP highlights included a 1996 performance on the 68th Academy Awards, countless TV appearances worldwide, and the privilege of musically directing and choreographing STOMP's 2013 performance of "Cecilia" alongside Paul Simon on "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon", which made Fallon's "Best Of Musical Performances". Since 1998, I have helped to run STOMP auditions and trained dozens of new cast members. In addition to my work with STOMP, I have also: Performed and/or recorded with: Beetroot (IMA Nominees), Mobb Deep, The Dan Band, Sasha Dobson (Norah Jones, Puss N Boots), Liminha (Os Mutantes, Gilberto Gil), Ivete Sangalo, Marivaldo Dos Santos (Fugees, Vinicius Cantuaria), Daevid Allen (Gong, Soft Machine), Brinae Ali (IMA Nominee), Two Dark Birds,  Katy Steele, Candice Anitra, The Love Machine Project, and many more… Received a 4th annual Independent Music Awards nomination in the "Album Of The Year" and "Blues/R&B - Song" categories for the Beetroot album "13" and album single "Peel" respectively as writer, producer, and artist. Received a 14th annual Independent Music Awards nomination in the "EP - Urban" category for Brinae Ali's EP "Destination Forever - Vol. 1" as producer. Provided original music for the Atlantic Theater Company's Off-Broadway production of "Scarcity", written by Lucy Thurber and starring Jesse Eisenberg and Kristen Johnston. I recently launched the beat-making YouTube video series YUMMY SOUNDS with my son, Aubrey, and fellow longtime STOMP cast member John Sawicki. I also recently scored the Independent short film “Origami”, written and directed by Paul Burger and starring Aubrey Mills. I currently perform regularly with The Dan Band, Sasha Dobson, Candice Anitra, and Giant's Are Small's production of "Peter And The Wolf In Hollywood", for which I provided "Live Sound Effects (Foley) Sound Design”. I teach drums and percussion from my private studio in Park Slope, Brooklyn, as well as being an on staff instructor at Gowanus Music Club.
