Introduction

I am a classical pianist and teacher. Over the past 35 years, I have taught students from across the Capital Region and Hudson Valley. Children, adults, beginners and advanced players are all welcome. I'm a graduate of the Manhattan School of Music and recently retired from the Music Department at SUNY Albany. Classical, popular, jazz, theatre music and theory are all explored. Students interested in synthsizers, digital media and midi sequencing are also encouraged. I teach in two major locations, Saratoga Springs and Albany. Let me know what your needs and goals are, and I will design a lesson program to meet them.

I have been one of Jeffrey Steins adult students for 15 years. Jeff is certainly knowledgeable and an accomplished musician. In my experience, two of his particular strengths as a teacher are his ability to tailor lessons to the students particular abilities, and to clearly explain techniques and how to correct problems. His approach has been positive and patient, while assigning challenging pieces to work on. I have learned a great deal and I enjoy my lessons with Jeff.

He's very good at tailoring the lessons to the individual, and offers constructive criticism while tempering it with pointing out what you did well, which is a sign of a great teacher. Blends in a little bit of theory to help you understand the structure of the pieces you're learning.

$35 per half hour lesson (for beginners) $50 for a 45 minute lesson $60 for an hour lesson
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I find out what their goals are in terms of time, money and skills wanted. Then, I design a program with the customer to meet those goals.
