- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
2016 to Present. Independent tuner-technician in Manhattan, Fairfield and Westchester counties. Clients include Bondy Pianos, New York City’s premier provider of piano services to the theatres, studios, and concert halls. And The Greene Space, recital and broadcast venue of New York Public Radio, and WQXR. 2013 to 2016. Head tuner/technician at Klavierhaus, 211 W 58th St. Prepare pianos for sale in showroom and performance in onsite Recital Hall, as well as for rentals to major venues such as Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center. A favorite gathering and rehearsal place of international Classical artists, worked with such luminaries as Richard Goode, Garrick Ohlsson, Andras Schiff and even the legendary soprano Renée Fleming, who gave a CD release recital there. 1995 to 2013 Formed Age of Elegance Pianos, to locate and broker rare and vintage Steinway pianos to the trade, including the Steinway Co., eventually branching out into all aspects of piano sales, service, restoration, consultation, and even moving. 1983 to 1995. Independent tuner-technician to recording industry in midtown Manhattan. Prepared pianos and other keyboard instruments for thousands of sessions by major advertising firms, film studios, record labels, and top artists such as Billy Joel (3 albums), Chick Corea, Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, and many, many more. 1980 to 1983. Head of keyboard services for Carroll Musical Instrument Rental Service, a major provider of equipment to concert halls, stages, and recording studios, located in New York City. Responsible for the preparation of pianos as well as all other keyboard instruments for hundreds of performances, recordings, and major events. 1978 to 1980. Apprentice to Piano Maintenance Dept., Manhattan School of Music. Hands-on experience in all aspects of piano service, rebuilding, and maintenance of the more than 200 Steinways at the prestigious conservatory.
