Consumer Beware. This business is very unprofessional.
I did my due diligence, interviewed several masons, and got multiple quotes for a couple of masonry jobs. I ultimately chose Erik after speaking with him on Tuesday the 25th. We agreed on a price, and he said he’d look into sourcing the bricks.
The next day, I checked in, only to be told he hadn’t looked yet—oddly claiming he thought I might not go with him. That should’ve been a red flag.
He later said he’d probably have the bricks, but when I followed up, he vaguely suggested they might be at Home Depot. I told him to let me know. Instead, he came back without bricks, only saying he could do the job. He mentioned another possible source, but by then, I had already found a great brick match myself—within five minutes—at a place I know. A professional mason should know where to get bricks. This was another red flag.
On Wednesday the 2nd, he confirmed the job, and we locked in Sunday the 6th at 7:00 a.m. By now it was later than I wanted, but at least a date was set. I even took my lunch break Friday to pick up over 360 bricks—using my car and my boss’s—to ensure we stayed on schedule.
I woke up early Sunday, ready by 7:00 a.m. I texted Erik at 6:46 to let me know when he arrived. At 7:57, I texted again asking for his ETA. No response. Finally, at 10:47 a.m.—nearly four hours later—I got a text saying someone else (whom I had never heard of) was supposed to show up but wasn’t answering his phone. Erik texted with an apology and asked if I wanted to reschedule, but it was a hard pass for me. I no longer trusted the process—or him.
This experience raised several serious concerns:
1. Why couldn’t Erik source bricks—or at least direct me where to go?
2. Why didn’t he inform me in advance that someone else would be doing the work?
3. Why did he wait nearly four hours to communicate after missing the appointment?
This behavior is unacceptable. I was angry, and rightly so. Things happen, but leaving a customer hanging for hours with no communication is beyond unprofessional. I sent him a blunt but honest message expressing my disappointment. He didn’t even bother to respond.
