- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Working with a new customer, whether in family law, juvenile delinquency or criminal defense, involves a series of steps to understand their needs, gather relevant information, and provide legal assistance. Here's a typical process for working with a new client as a family law and criminal attorney: Initial Consultation: The process usually begins with an initial consultation. This can be done in person, over the phone, or through video conferencing. During the consultation, I listen to the client's situation, concerns, and goals. For family law, this may include issues like divorce, child custody, or spousal support. In criminal law, it could involve charges, arrests, or investigations. Client Engagement: If we agree to work together, I will then require us to formalize the working relationship through an engagement agreement. This document outlines the scope of representation, fees, and other essential terms. Information Gathering: I will collect detailed information about the client's case. This may involve gathering documents, such as financial records for family law cases or police reports for criminal cases. For family law cases, relevant information might include details about assets, debts, income, and any existing court orders. In criminal cases, information about the alleged incident, witnesses, and evidence is crucial. Legal Analysis and Strategy: Based on the information gathered, I will analyze the legal aspects of the case. Including researching relevant laws, precedents, and procedures to develop a strategic approach. The attorney I will then discuss this with my client, helping them understand the strengths and weaknesses of their case. Communication and Updates: Regular communication is essential. I pride myself on keeping my client reasonably informed about the progress of their case, any developments, and potential next steps. As it pertains to Family law matters, I will discuss negotiation strategies, mediation options, or court proceedings. In criminal matters I am sure to update my clients prior to taking action regarding plea negotiations, court appearances, or trial preparations. Negotiation/Mediation: In family law cases, negotiation and mediation are common steps to reach agreements on issues such as child custody, support, and property division. In criminal cases, negotiation with prosecutors for plea bargains may be pursued to resolve the case without going to trial. Court Proceedings: If a resolution is not reached through negotiation or mediation, court proceedings may be necessary. Family law cases may involve hearings for temporary orders or full trials, while criminal cases may go to trial if a plea agreement is not reached. Resolution: The case concludes with a resolution, whether through a negotiated settlement, a court decision, or, in some cases, an appeal. As it pertains to my Family law clients I will ensure that court orders are properly executed, and as it pertains to my criminal defense clients I work to protect the rights and interests of my clients throughout the legal process. Throughout this process, maintaining clear communication and a client-focused approach is crucial for building trust and achieving the best possible outcome for the client.

I embarked on this path with a solid academic foundation, graduating from Northern Arizona University in 2011 with a double major in Political Science and Criminal Justice. This educational background laid the groundwork for my future endeavors in the legal field. I pursued my legal education at Nova Southeastern University, Shepard Broad College of Law, where I not only gained comprehensive knowledge but also actively contributed to the legal community.
