Introduction
I am Dr. Marcos Cavalcante.
I have a vast experience teaching Classical, Jazz and Brazilian Guitar.
I have taught at Indiana University, Universidade Estadual de Campinas and at Northern New Mexico College. My experience teaching privately extends for four decades, in Brazil and the USA. I love teaching and I have many students that succeeded in music performance and teaching.
I hold a Doctor of Music in Classical Guitar Literature and Performance and a Masters of Jazz studies, from Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, and a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Composition from Universidade Estadual de Campinas (São Paulo State, Brazil).

Marcos has been my teacher and mentor for over a decade. During my time as his student I have come to learn so much about the Jazz language, music theory, how to work as a professional musician, and most importantly, how to teach myself. With his mentorship I was able to grow into an avid composer and writer, and because of what he has taught me, I have been able to find work playing in live performances, transcribing scores, arranging student band pieces and teaching combo jazz classes. Marcos has guided me toward becoming a creative, professional musician, and he has influenced my life greatly. It is with the utmost of respect that I give my recommendation to anyone who is interested in learning the joys of guitar and music.

Marcos is an amazing instructor. I have been playing guitar on and off for a couple years, but I never really got passed the beginning stages. Since taking lessons with him my playing has improved immensely. He teaches me something new every lesson and encourages me to improve my playing. He teaches all aspects of guitar, from music theory, rhythm, music reading, to the historical origins of the different styles of music we look at. He is an invaulable resource to anyone who is serious about learning guitar.
