I love teaching students young and old to make music! I am known for being a fun, compassionate teacher and making students feel very comfortable.
Experience:
I have a Bachelors degree in Music Education, over 25 years of piano study and performance, over 15 years of well-rounded vocal study and performance, 15 years of teaching private lessons, and 2 years at a Broadway musical theatre performance college (before deciding I wanted more well-rounded pursuits). I have worked as an accompanist both freelance and in the school district, and as a singer for events and weddings. I am also a singer/songwriter and have studied as an actress and worked as an acting coach as well.
Lessons:
I teach piano from age 4 through adult, and voice from roughly age 12 through adult, although I will sometimes consider different ages based on aptitude and attention span. I have also helped many people prepare songs and acting monologues for auditions of all kinds. My previous students have enjoyed great success, a comfortable and supportive atmosphere, and two recitals a year. I had a student who once won a national competition for young country singers as well.
Teaching Focus and Style:
I teach all styles of music, from classical and musical theatre to R&B and pop and everything in between, tailoring the lessons to each student's needs and goals. One thing I am especially known for is making students feel at ease and making the process fun. I work very well with both advanced adults and beginners or children! I love watching the lightbulb come on and helping people begin or further their musical journey, and I am a mother with young children myself so I have a great love and passion for working with children. I also love the excitement and challenge of working with intermediate and advanced adults and teens who are looking to improve or broaden their skills, learn better technique, prepare for college or shows, or want a challenge. Whether you are looking to learn for fun or pursue a career in music, I would love to work with you!
I love seeing the lightbulb go on and the excitement when students learn something new or achieve something they've been working toward! Watching students grow and succeed is incredibly rewarding.
