Introduction
I am a private woodwind instructor and professional freelance musician. My main instrument is saxophone and I double on flute, teaching both with the addition of beginner to intermediate clarinet. I have a Masters in Jazz Studies from Manhattan School of Music and BA in Classical and Jazz Performance from Michigan State University. I am also one of the Adjunct Professors at Montclair State University teaching Jazz Studies. I am experienced in many different genres of music and have performed and recorded with many jazz, latin, funk, soul, fusion, R&B, pop, and classical ensembles. Music has many aspects and certain students gravitate towards different aspects then others. I focus on these specific aspects so my students get the most creative and intellectual growth. I teach strong foundations in note reading, music theory, ear training, sight reading, technique, improvisation and more. My lessons are always encouraging no matter what level or pace the student is at. For me, teaching is extremely rewarding, the fact that I get to share and guide students through this creative art form that is so dear to me is a very special thing.

Kevin has been my sax teacher for three years. I have a lesson once a week. He is a great music teacher--he knows how to teach. He only points out mistakes when he knows you are the level where you will be able to fix them. I am making great progress with him, week by week. I am always looking forward to our lessons. You will too. Moshe

FAQs

  • What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

When I work with a new student, I always make sure to assess the goals of the student whether he/she is a hobbyist or a high school/college student preparing for auditions or competitions so we are on the same page together. Then we assess the level at which the student is performing as well as their understanding of musical concepts. From there we discuss music books and materials, as well as different techniques to work on on a weekly basis for optimal musical growth.

  • What types of customers have you worked with?

I work with students of ALL ages and skill levels.

  • What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

I always recommend that students try a few lesson teachers before deciding to make sure they have a good fit. You want a teacher that you feel comfortable with as well as one that will push and encourage the student.
