FAQs
- Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?
Recently I performed a same-sex marriage for two gentlemen who had been together for nearly thirty years but could never make that long-term relationship legal. I sat with them, went over everything involved in planning a wedding ceremony, from who walks when and with whom, to advising them on creating their vows, to providing suggestions small, elegant touches that we can work into their ceremony. I listened to what they liked, what they didn't like, and what they were unsure of, and then took the time to work through all aspects from start to finish. When they presented to me their concern that, although this was a gay marriage, they didn't want anything that could be deemed distasteful or was unnecessary to call this out as a "gay" marriage. I understood their concerns, made some suggestions and on their big day, they (and their family and friends witnessing the ceremony) could not be happier. I've officiated over a number of weddings, but to see the joy on their faces when I pronounced them "legally wed" was just so incredibly heart-warming as no one in that room ever thought we'd get to that day in the first place.
- What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Hiring an officiant to perform your wedding ceremony isn't like hiring a plumber to fix your sink. Your decision should not be based solely on the price that I or one of my fellow officiants provide in our quote to you on Thumbtack. Please take the time to read testimonials, look at the pics we post . . . don't be afraid to ask questions. I fact, I highly encourage it! Your wedding is YOUR BIG DAY. It's a day that takes months or even years to plan from the way you get engaged to picking the date and the venue to hiring your band/DJ, florist, your officiant. This is a process that may seemingly take forever but goes by in an instant, and then all you have left are the memories. Take the time to make the right decision as to who will be standing up there with you and your intended on your wedding day. Do you want someone who was the cheapest of all the quotes, or do you want someone who will take the time to work with you to ensure that your wedding ceremony - the most important part of your wedding day - is everything you ever dreamed of and more. My advice: In my heart I believe THAT is the officiant you hire.
