FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
I am hesitant to give a customer a quote for their project until I am able to determine exactly what is involved. Most customers either under- or over-estimate the complexity of their return and I like to make sure my pricing is fair, which is why I like to have a quick chat before we get started. Having said that, my MINIMUM fee for a Federal return starts at $250 while a State return starts at $75. And don’t forget to ask about discounts for first-time clients!!
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I don’t have a typical process, because, to me, each client is an individual. Nevertheless, I begin each engagement with a quick fact-finding conversation to determine what the client’s requirements are and to let them know what our fee will be for the assignment. If we both agree to work together, I will send them an Engagement Letter confirming the terms. A lot of my clients prefer to deal with me virtually, especially if they live out of state. They email or text me their documents and then sign their returns electronically when finished. All information that is exchanged is secure, confidential and encrypted. If you’re not tech-savvy we can arrange to meet in person, either at my office or at your home, depending on distance. In those instances, I may even be able to finish your return in front of you.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
In addition to my Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Wisconsin, I originally trained with H&RBlock. Before learning how to use the computer programs, we were taught how to do taxes with pencil and paper. That was my first introduction to tax theory. I then attended and successfully completed Liberty Tax Service’s Income Tax School and eventually became an instructor. Most recently, I studied for and passed the rigorous examinations entitling me to become an Enrolled Agent. Not only is this the highest certification a tax preparer can achieve, it allows me to represent my clients before the IRS in any tax-related matter. Importantly, I am required to complete many hours of continuing education every year in order to maintain my status as an Enrolled Agent.
