Also in person in Essex County, NJ.” I have actual professional experience in multiple genres of music spanning from opera to country to musical theater. I can teach healthy belting technique but also help you hit a high C! My students have gone on the be accepted to LaGuardia performing arts high school, starred in theater productions, learned to hit the notes right on without the help of auto tune and also gotten over karaoke fears. In lessons, I focus on breath control, tone quality, musicianship and expanding vocal range.... after beginning with technical exercises to help strengthen these things, I move on to rep that I pick with the student that will be both fun and challenging, or appropriate to whatever the students goal is. I love teaching more than anything! There is nothing more fulfilling than helping a student overcome obstacles that once seemed insurmountable... hitting that high note, getting the dream role, overcoming stage fright. I love all kinds of music, so I enjoy getting to work on the wide variety of music my students bring to me. I do musical theater and classical music professionally and also have a country music band, and I’ve also recorded vocals for a DJ doing EDM, so no music is off limits!

Caitlin is a brilliant singing teacher, she is very knowledgeable, intelligent, and is able to explain the fundamentals and mechanics of singing clearly. She is also very good at putting me at ease as I’m generally nervous about my singing. Most importantly my voice has greatly improved in a very short space of time thanks to her and I look forward to continuing taking lessons.

I decided to finally take voice lessons after Covid hit and I am so thankful I found Caitlin. I had always sort of thought that singing ability was something you were either born with or not, but I was shown otherwise. I’ve been working with Caitlin a few times a month for about 8 months and wow. The difference between my “singing” prior to lessons and now is night and day. Caitlin McKechney is an excellent teacher. My 12 year old daughter and I have been taking lessons with her for a few months and we have already seen great improvement in our voices. Caitlin is very patient, kind, knowledgeable and loves what she does. If your in need of a great singing coach who really cares, is versatile, not to mention reasonable, then Caitlin is the one. I had a great first lesson with Caitlin! She has such a friendly, non-judgmental personality which made my first singing lesson less intimidating. She is also very knowledgeable of proper vocal technique and took the time to explain concepts in depth (in a way that I could easily understand). What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
Now with online lessons, it’s all pretty straightforward! No travel fees or studio rentals!
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I usually ask them to bring in one song they love and would like to sing.... Through that I can asses their level and needs and we go from there! I use warm ups and exercises individualized to each individual.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I received my Bachelor of Music in opera and musical theater from Northwestern University. I also have a Masters degree from Chicago College of Performing Arts and have completed apprenticeships with Nashville Opera, Florida Grand Opera and Sarasota Opera. I am currently working on my doctorate in voice at SUNY Stony Brook working with famed opera soprano Brenda Harris.
