Introduction
I am a passionate musician and educator. I have worked for many years as a private flute instructor on both the modern and baroque flute, gaining experience with many age and skill levels. Lessons are tailored to the individual needs and goals of the student, with an emphasis on developing tone, technique, and breathing skills. Students will also be encouraged to think about the music that they play. As a musician, I developed an interest in the field of Historical Performance over the course of my undergraduate degree. In this field, one not only studies the music of past periods, but studies its relevance to the social, political, and cultural circumstances of its time. I believe this puts me in a unique position as a music educator, as I understand the importance of teaching students to connect musical works to their historical contexts. This is a skill that will provide them with a richer understanding of all types of music, including both classical and popular, and give them the tools to think critically about art. I love teaching because I get to watch students grow and change, as musicians and people. I am a dedicated professional musician, but I believe music is for everyone. Music is such an important part of everyones life, it is wonderful gift to give students the tools to create music themselves.
