FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
My pricing is by the hour. I offer discounts for lessons bought in bulk, in monthly, 3 month, and 6 month packages.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Before starting with lessons I like to have a consultation (usually over the phone) with prospective students to talk about musical experience, goals, and get a general sense of background. This is also a good opportunity for me to elaborate on what I can specifically offer as a teacher. From a pedagogical standpoint, I teach based on the three focus areas of technical development, repertoire, and theory. What this looks like from student to student varies based on style, experience, and goals, but I try to immediately give a sense of the 'long view' of the work we do, while keeping the material engaging and inspiring.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I graduated from Duke University in 2016 with a bachelor's degree in music theory and composition, and I am currently pursuing my master's degree in Jazz Studies at North Carolina Central University. I've also toured internationally as a performer, and recorded professionally for record labels. Most recently I lived on campus and taught music at the Robert Bosch College (an international boarding high school located in Freiburg, Germany).
