FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
My rates differ on the type of legal matter needed. For instance, family law matters are an hourly rate with an advanced fee deposit. Some matters, such as traffic or animal tickets, are a flat rate fee. I do accept payment plans.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
When first meeting a new client at his or her free consultation, I make sure there is understanding of confidentiality and purpose to the conversation. The conversations with new clients allows me to get information needed to discuss how I can I help and to allow the client to voice his or her concerns or ask questions about the process at hand. Hiring an attorney is an important decision that should not be based solely upon advertisement. People should meet the attorney he or she is considering hiring to learn about them and their practice.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
My education came from Kansas City. I received my undergrad degree from William Jewell and my law degree from UMKC School of Law. I knew I wanted to practice in KC and made KC my home from the start. I am a certified Guardian ad Litem in the State of Missouri and have been involved with this area of practice for the majority of my career, including the UMKC Family Law clinic. I accept GAL appointments in Jackson County. Recently, I have been volunteering with a local animal welfare organization on weekends. Additionally, I interned with the KC Municipal Prosecutor's Office and was an Animal Law Society president while in law school. I actively handle a variety of animal law related matters, ranging from municipal tickets to civil disputes.
