FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
Criminal cases are priced based on the seriousness and complexity of the case. I don't pull a number out of the air and leave the client guessing. The client knows what they are getting in return for what they pay -- and there are NO SURPRISES. Personal injury cases are handled on a contingency fee basis -- so the client pays nothing unless I obtain a result for them. I advance all fees and expenses. Many cases are handled for just a 25% fee when no lawsuit is filed.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I respond rapidly, and try to put a new client's mind at ease by letting them know that I will be the one handling their case -- not some less-experienced assistant. I listen to them rather than talking about myself. I answer all questions. I get to know someone and learn about their case before I discuss money. When fees are discussed, everything is in writing. Every penny paid to me is explained and accounted for.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I received the Missouri Bar's highest honor for trial attorneys. I have served as Chair of both the Jackson County Court Rules Committee and the Missouri Bar's Criminal Law Committee. I have practiced law in Kansas City for 24 years (more than half my life). I have gone to trial and won cases ranging from first-degree murder to car accidents. I have a Juris Doctor from the University of Missouri--Kansas City. I have been licensed in Missouri state and federal courts since 1994, and have appeared in courts as a visiting lawyer from Idaho to Louisiana.
