Introduction
I am a licensed general contractor. I have been in the construction business for about 20 years. I am an honest and reliable person. I understand time is money and when you spend your money with me, I know you are spending your time. I treat my customers as I want to be treated. There is no job too big or small. Most of my customers that I have encountered have valued and respected my work, as you know there are good and bad contractors so it is customers that don’t value your time and efforts. I work with the best of the best when it comes to all trades in the construction business. I try to speak the language of construction in a more simplistic way for better communication, always paying attention to the customer’s needs and expectations. Thank you and it would be a pleasure to work with you.

JC home remodeling company has been THE WORST company I have ever worked with. Julio acted super nice and friendly when he came out to bid our attic drywall replacement and repainting project; but once the job started his demeanor and professionalism completely changed and he treated us extremely disrespectfully. Julio bid us $15,000 originally to remove the existing drywall and paneling and replace with new drywall, repaint, and replace something née for the old paneling, and also reframe the attic to add more space in the ceiling. Our attic is vaulted along our roof. One part of our roof juts out in the other direction, we were hoping to add space there. After consulting some other companies to ask if space could be added, and having them say it couldn’t be done I asked Julio to draw up a new contract without framing included. He agreed to a new contract at $14,000. We then signed the second contract and decided to go with his company. Once the job actually started there were multiple problems. First of all Neither Julio or his crew ever showed up on time or even close to when they said they would. We would ask him when he would be there, and he would show up at least a half hour or more late, or not at all. Second: Julio locked my husband out of our house, so that my husband had to climb a latter and break in through our attic window?! Third, he put drywall over our crawl space, which we did not want. Then had to remove it. Fourth: he then tried to lie to us intentionally to try to upsell us for more money. After removing the drywall that was put over the crawl space mistakenly, he tried to say our roof was leaking and that it was going to be “a lot more money”. To fix it. We had a friend of ours who does roofing come out to give us a second opinion. Our roof was definitely not leaking! There was only condensation from the insulation being removed and a bunch of space heaters on drying the mud in the attic. Our project was started in December, and it had snowed a couple of times. Fifth: then Julio all of a sudden had to go to California for 10 days, so he subcontracted out the painting of the attic. Sixth: The subcontractors showed up high on Christmas Eve and did a HORRIBLE PAINT JOB!!! They repainted our closet in the attic which was already finished and we DID NOT WANT PAINTED!!! Did such a bad job with drips everywhere?!?!? They painted the closet dowels and the carpet in the closet?! They also painted our baseboard heating unit which should have been covered and not painted!!!! 7th: Julio tried to lie right to my face and say that “they didn’t paint the closet”. I can provide before and after pictures. 8th: there were multiple holes and dings in the drywall and paint. They painted our stair skirt, our railing, and our trim under the railing, which was natural treated wood, which was NOT supposed to be painted. 9th: when he “cleaned” and finished the job, he did a half assed job. He left behind mud stains all over and footmarks, there is paint on our carpet because plastic was never put down in the entryway. 10th: midway through the job after him getting caught in a lie about our roof leaking, and after him locking my husband out of our home and him having to break in, he told us that he would reframe our crawl space and drywall and “make it look really nice for free”. After we were threatening to fire him for all of the BS. He also told my husband that “we never discussed trim, but he will do it for free” after he tried to lie to me about the closet being painted by mistake and leaving me in tears and shaking in anger. After a month and a half NIGHTMARE OF A JOB; he STILL CHARGED MY HUSBAND $15,000. We never signed a $15,000 contract and he never reframed the ceiling in the attic, and told us he would complete his mistakes for free. Julio is a layer, a cheater, and has treated us incredibly disrespectfully. We are so woefully dissatisfied. We would never want to see him again and would definitely never recommend him for anything.

Hilltop Castle Construction Inc.'s reply
FIRST AND FOREMOST JC HOME REMODELING ALWAYS STRIVES FOR 5 STARS. WE RESPECT ALL GENDERS, ETHNICITIES, AND EVERY INDIVIDUAL. HONESTY IS A MUST AND ONE OF OUR PRINCIPLES. THE COSTUMER FOR THIS PROJECT ONLY ALLOWED US TO WORK 4 DAYS PER WEEK, NOT ON MONDAYS, AND DID NOT ALLOW US TO START WORK AT 8AM, SAYING WE COULD NOT START UNTIL 9AM OR 9:30 AM, WHICH MADE IT DIFFICULT FOR US. NEVERTHELESS, WE WERE ABLE TO FINISH THE PROJECT IN A TIMELY MANNER. MR. GREEN WOULD NEVER HAVE PAID THE FULL AMOUNT IF THE JOB WAS NOT FINISHED PROPERLY. ON THE CONTRARY HE PRAISED OUR WORK WHEN IT WAS DONE. I DID NOT DISRESPECT MRS. GREEN OR HER HUSBAND. ON THE CONTRARY, MRS. GREEN HAD QUESTIONABLE BEHAVIOR, TO THE POINT THAT SHE CALLED ME NAMES AND WAS SWEARING AT ME. I DECIDED TO COMMUNICATE MOSTLY WITH HER HUSBAND AFTER THAT FOR MOST OF THE REMAINDER OF THE PROJECT. MRS. GREEN DID NOT COMMUNICATE IN A NORMAL AND PROFESSIONAL MANNER. MRS. GREEN WROTE THAT I SAID I WILL REPLACE PANELING WITH SOMETHING ELSE FROM THE BEGINNING OF THE PROJECT, THEN LATER SHE WRITES THAT I SAID I WOULD DO THAT (INSTALL TRIM IN PLACE OF PANELING) BECAUSE I WAS CAUGHT IN A LIE. WHICH ONE IS IT?! THAT I AGREED TO INSTALL SOMETHING INSTEAD OF PANELING, OR THAT I WAS CAUGHT IN A LIE? SHE IS CONTRADICTING HERSELF. MRS. GREEN SAID THAT THEY DECIDED NOT TO DO THE FRAMING WHICH IS TRUE. WE DID A CONTRACT FOR $14,000.00 AND VERBALLY AGREED ON AN EXTRA $1,000.00 FOR ADDITIONAL WORK NOT IN THE CONTRACT THAT THEY WANTED ME TO DO. I EXPLAIN BELOW WITH DETAILS. WE SIGNED A CONTRACT FOR DRYWALL, MUDDING, TAPING, SANDING, PRIMING AND PAINTING AND INSTALLING THREE FANS. I PUT TWO IN THE CONTRACT BY MISTAKE, SO I INSTALLED THREE FANS ANYWAY. WHAT MRS. GREEN IS NOT SAYING IS WHAT WE FOUND ONCE WE DID THE DEMOLITION OF THE DRYWALL: BOXES OF FILES, WATER DAMAGED WITH ROTTED AND WET MATERIAL HIDDEN BEHIND THE WALL. THAT’S THE CRAWL SPACE SHE IS TALKING ABOUT. IT WAS A WALL, NOT A CRAWLING SPACE. ONCE DEMOLITION WAS DONE, I CALLED MR. AND MRS. GREEN UPSTAIRS SO THEY COULD SEE WHAT WE FOUND. THE BOXES AND WATER DAMAGED WET AND ROTTING MATERIAL WAS JUST SITTING THERE; THE AREA WAS NOT PROPERLY MADE INTO A STORAGE AREA OR CLOSET. I ADDRESSED THIS ISSUE WITH THEM, THAT THEY HAD WATER DAMAGE INSIDE THE CRAWL SPACE. THEY SAW THAT THE STAINS AND ROTTED AND WET MATERIAL WERE THERE. THEY TOLD ME THAT IT WAS NOT A CONCERN FOR THEM; THAT THEY HAD BEEN LIVING THAT WAY. MRS. GREEN TOLD ME IN FRONT OF HER HUSBAND TO FRAME AND INSULATE THE CRAWLING SPACE AND DRYWALL. THEY BOTH AGREED TO PAY AN EXTRA $1,000 FOR THIS, (AND IT TURNED INTO A LOT MORE WORK THAN WE ORIGINALLY AGREED ON.) SHE NEVER TOLD ME TO TURN THE CRAWL SPACE INTO A STORAGE SPACE. I TOLD HER HUSBAND THAT I WILL TURN THE CRAWL SPACE INTO A STORAGE SPACE SINCE MRS. GREEN WANTED ME TO, EVEN THOUGH THAT WAS NOT THE AGREEMENT, JUST BECAUSE I DID NOT WANT TO DEAL WITH HER UNPROFESSIONAL BEHAVIOR. MRS. GREEN PURPORTS THAT I TRIED TO OVERCHARGE HER HUSBAND FOR WATER DAMAGE, SAYING IT WAS BECAUSE OF THE HEATERS UPSTAIRS WHEN IN FACT I SHOWED THEM THE WATER DAMAGE THAT PRE-EXISTED BEFORE THE DRYWALL WAS REINSTALLED ON THE WALLS. I REQUESTED A KEY FROM MR. AND MRS. GREEN TO HAVE ACCESS TO THE ATTIC. SHE TOLD ME SHE HAD NO TIME FOR GETTING ME A KEY. I TOLD HER IT WOULD BE NICE TO HAVE ACCESS TO THE ATTIC BECAUSE WE DID NOT KNOW WHAT TIME WE WERE ABLE TO SHOW UP AND WE DID NOT WANT TO INTERFERE WITH THEIR DAY. FOR INSTANCE, THE DUMPSTER COMPANY WILL TELL YOU THAT THEY WILL BE THERE FROM 8AM TO 5PM, BUT THEY WILL CALL WHEN HEADING THAT WAY. HOME DEPOT, ETC. DOES THE SAME WHEN DOING DELIVERIES. WHILE WE USUALLY WERE DOING WORK IN THE MORNING, SOMETIMES WE HAD TO GO TO HOME DEPOT OR LEAVE THE JOB SITE FOR LUNCH, OR LEAVE TO GET SOME MORE MATERIALS FOR WORK FROM ANOTHER STORE. INSTEAD I HAD TO DRIVE TO HER HUSBAND'S JOB TO COLLECT THE KEY AND TO GET ACCESS TO THE JOB SITE.
USUALLY AFTER WORK, WE LEFT THE KEY ON THE KITCHEN TABLE AND LOCKED THE DOOR, BUT ONE PARTICULAR DAY WE LEFT A LITTLE EARLY SO MR. GREEN CALLED ME TO LET ME KNOW THAT HE WAS LOCKED OUT. NATURALLY I TOLD HIM THAT I WOULD COME BACK AND OPEN IT FOR HIM, BUT HE DECIDED TO OPEN IT HIMSELF BY USING A LADDER BECAUSE THE ATTIC WINDOW WAS LOW ENOUGH FOR HIM TO DO SO. ALL THIS INCONVENIENCE FOR NOT PROVIDING A KEY FOR US, OR A SPARE KEY FOR THEMSELVES; I WOULD HAVE PUT A LOCKBOX BY THE DOOR. TOWARD THE END OF DECEMBER MY FATHER IN LAW HAD A STROKE. I WENT TO HELP HIM FOR A LITTLE WHILE IN THIS DIFFICULT TIME. UNFORTUNATELY THE PAINTER DID NOT DO A GOOD JOB WHILE I WAS ABSENT. THE CUSTOMER WAS COMPLAINING ABOUT THAT. WHEN I GOT BACK I CORRECTED THE PAINT, OF COURSE; MY COMPANY WOULD NOT ACCEPT LEAVING IT THAT WAY. WE ALWAYS GET THE WORK IN OUR CONTRACTS COMPLETED TO A HIGH STANDARD. WE ALWAYS STRIVE FOR 5 STARS. NOT ONLY THAT, BUT BECAUSE OF THIS I DID A LOT OF EXTRA WORK FOR MR. AND MRS. GREEN, ABOVE AND BEYOND WHAT WAS IN OUR CONTRACT, EVEN THOUGH IT WAS NOT MY OBLIGATION, BECAUSE WE WANT TO GO TO EVERY EFFORT TO SATISFY THE CUSTOMER AND SHE WAS COMPLAINING ABOUT THE PAINT. FOR EXAMPLE: I INSTALLED BASEBOARD FOR FREE. I INSTALLED QUATER ROUND FOR FREE. I REPLACED THE CARPET IN THE CLOSET FOR FREE. I REPLACED THREE BARS FOR HANGERS FOR FREE. I INSTALLED SIX OUTLETS, TWO SWITCHES, AND TWO COVER PLATES FOR FREE. ALL OF THIS IS ABOVE AND BEYOND OUR SIGNED CONTRACT, WHICH I AM PROVIDING A COPY OF TO THUMBTACK AS PROOF. OUR CONTRACT WAS ONLY FOR INSTALLING DRYWALL, MUDDING, TAPING, SANDING, PRIMING, PAINTING, AND INSTALLING FANS. I GOT PAID IN FULL BY MR. GREEN, WHO SEEMED HAPPY AT THE TIME WITH THE WORK I HAD DONE. IF I HAD NOT DONE MY WORK, HE WOULD NOT HAVE PAID ME. I TEXTED MR. GREEN CONCERNING MRS. GREEN’S REVIEW, BUT I NEVER HEARD BACK FROM HIM. I WILL PROVIDE PHOTOS OF THOSE TEXT MESSAGES TO THUMBTACK. AT THE END OF THE PROJECT, I WANTED TO TAKE PICTURES OF MY FINISHED WORK, BUT MRS. GREEN DIDN’T WANT ME TO, AND NOW IT SEEMS SHE HAD ULTERIOR MOTIVES. THE PHOTOS THAT SHE POSTED WERE BEFORE THE JOB WAS FINISHED.

We found Julio and his team to be very knowledgeable as well as very responsive. He was able to fully understand our needs for drywall installation, muffing, taping and painting of our unfinished basement and within 3 hours of meeting him, we were able to get the contract signed to get the work started. He was also very open and accommodative to our suggestions for improvements along the way which we often find lacking with other agencies, Even though there were a few punctuality issues, we found him and his team to be very reliable. We are extremely happy with the work quality that was completed and would highly recommend him.

Quote was more than $2k higher then everyone else who is licensed to do the same work. The only work we asked for was sheetrock, tape and mud a 2 4X13 space. We mentioned nothing about electrical or anything else. Again, all we need was Sheetrock, tape and mud and that was explained to you in person. I'm sorry you didn't understand and thought we wanted you to do a complete remodel of the kitchen when the emails that went back and forth explained it a long with homeowner.
