FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
I generally like to work with set blocks of lessons (at least 5) that are purchased, and then we can schedule. For someone test cramming that might be 5 days in a row, other people might last them months. Most people find 1-2 hour blocks with a few small breaks is more than enough, but I'e gone all day with someone that wanted it before.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Usually our first meeting is about 1/2 hour long. I do charge for it, but if you decide to go with me, that gets discounted off of your first session. I really like to meet with the person I'll be working with on a personal level - figure out what their motiviations are, how they learn, if we get along, etc. I also like to give them the chance to scope me out, ask me questions, make sure they can trust me and like me.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a Master's in Social Work and have done tutoring (both subject and test) with both extremely at-risk kids and very gifted kids for many years in an after-school and weekend program. I have also helped run multiple drop-in youth centers. I was an SAT test prep coach for about a year. That I scored nearly perfect across all mine isn't actually nearly as important as I too benefited from test prep and I know how to help laser focus. I have done a fair amount on adult continuing ed volunteering, mostly focusing on beginner and intermediate computer literacy and some GED prep.
