FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
Our service prices are competitive in the market, and great care is given to initially offer the most realistic and cost effective option for you. A basic tuning starts at $150. Depending on who in the CWH Piano Tuning Collective serves you, a typical invoice can range $165-$205. Invoices are built from a sliding scale given the scope of work needed and travel range for those in the Collective. Your scheduling preference and location are the first to influence the most cost effective option. Repair services are ala carte, and priced based on the scope of service. The invoices include the service charge itself, a one way mileage trip, and a small processing fee to accommodate our digital payment and client profile management services. If a piano is in rough shape and multiple sessions are be needed to get the piano strong enough to hold a tuning optimally, then this will be discussed and scheduled as determined. True estimates and quotes on refurbishing and repair services without physically seeing a piano is unrealistic; and in cases like these, it is more appropriate to schedule a consultation to determine the best pathway forward. Regardless of the situation, we are always in constant discussion around invoicing and pricing so there aren't any surprises.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
With our Piano Tuning Collective living across the TC Metro area, we. are able to offer scheduling 6 days a week; typically in 9-12noon, 12-3pm or 3-6pm appt slots. ****************************************************************************************************************************** I will send a calendar appointment and invoice over email, and a digital business card over text. Once a client confirms the appointment by releasing this information, we are booked! Once the appointment is over, we may post pictures of the piano, it's age, and a short video clip of it being played on CWH Piano Tuning social media channels. (No owner names or private details are released on social media.) These posts are public, and are ammunition for spreading the growth of the business. Clients are encouraged to share this at will. Ultimately, we always want to encourage a predictable routine for ongoing care. Pianos lose intonation stability due to age, strung tension, and humidity changes. Because we have two extremes in humidity changes throughout the year in MN, it's optimal for pianos to be on a a 6month cycle. When pianos experience gaps in care, then more corrective repairs are eminent. In light of this, future maintenance and recommendations are always discussed and placeholder appts for services 6-12 months are offered for clients who choose them.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
In addition to earning my Certified Piano Technician credentials, I also have a Bachelors and a Masters degree in Music. I am also a member of the Twin Cities Chapter of the Piano Technicians Guild. Every piano technician in my Piano Tuning Collective holds a Bachelors degree in Music, in addition to being coached and trained in my Piano Tuning Collective. As a working musician, I teach Music at the college level, as well as an active performer managing my own independent Artist Brand. I approach my Piano Tuning in this way... as an artist and musician. Treating the piano with care (as a musician) distinguishes my work from other technicians, who tend to be more mechanical in their approach.
