Introduction

I teach contemporary music (jazz, blues, folk, pop, country, etc) and classical music. My specialties are jazz and improvisation. I offer in-studio music lessons in Richfield, MN and online lessons nationwide. My students are performing musicians, casual musicians, beginners, composers & songwriters. They sing, play piano, keyboard, acoustic guitar and banjo. Each of my students has a personal page on my website providing them with easy access to their lesson materials. I have a unique, fun and effective way of teaching music. My teaching methods are heavily influenced by my time at the Berklee College of Music in Boston. I offer multi-lesson discounts. Such a great teacher! I’ve started lessons later in life. Jim takes into account the reasons why you want to play, what music you like and creates sessions to tap into all of this. Such fun!

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
The first thing I do is learn the new student's musical interests and goals. Then, based on their current ability, I design a custom program to help them achieve these goals.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a B.A. degree in Music Performance from Westmar College in Iowa and continuing music education at the Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA. In addition I have been composing, performing and teaching music for over 40 years.
