I worked with Jessica for 4 months and I mean WITH. She is not your average “clip board and commands” trainer. She did not put me on a crash diet or scold me for not sticking to my health plan. I never felt judged and I always felt supported and safe. She encouraged me and empowered me to cultivate a healthier lifestyle that worked for me. When I started working with Jessica, I wasn't completely new to fitness — but I wasn't committed to it, either. When I did go the gym, my workouts consisted of cardio and a few reps using 10-lb. dumbbells. While I tried to maintain a healthy looking appearance, I didn’t feel strong. With no consistent routine or motivation to go the gym more than a handful of times per year, I never saw the results I wanted. I needed the direction, motivation, and knowledge to make exercise as part of my lifestyle, not just a task on my To-Do List. Working with a health and wellness coach seemed intimidating, but ended up being one of the best things I've ever done. When I met Jessica with Aruna Health and Wellness, I knew instantly that she was passionate about helping others. She's the kind of person you'd want to be friends with, because she leaves you feeling better than she found you. She asked me in-depth questions about my lifestyle and goals, so she could tailor the plan to fit my needs. When our intake session was complete, my anxiety had turned to excitement. Though she lives nearly 45 minutes away from me, Jessica was always on time (and often early) to our 6:45 A.M. sessions, twice per week. She never canceled, either. Regardless of what she had going on outside of the gym, she always maintained a calm, professional, and positive vibe. Her demeanor made even the toughest workouts pretty fun. Each workout session left me feeling more confident. Even on the mornings we didn't meet, she would send a text to check in with me. It was the accountability I had been missing, and I always looked forward to reading her affirmations. There were many mornings I felt like quitting, or canceling a session, but her encouragement kept me committed. Jessica convinced me that as long as I tried my best at everything, I couldn't fail. And I didn't. After a few weeks of new workouts and gradually increasing the weight I lifted, I began to see big changes in the mirror. In addition to feeling stronger and looking more toned, I had a adopted a better mindset. "I don't think I can do it," turned into, "I'll give it my best shot!" During our sessions, Jessica also readily offered nutritional advice and holistic remedies that would boost my progress in the gym and heal my body as it recovered. I changed my diet significantly with her suggestions. She made sure I never over-did an exercise, because safety is one of her biggest priorities. One of my fears about lifting heavy weights was injuring my back. Jessica took extra time to demonstrate exactly how to complete each exercise (as many times as necessary) with the proper form and tempo. Because of her patience, I now confidently complete my workout routine without fear that I might hurt myself. And I don't reach for the 10 lb. weights. Jessica has successfully helped me transform my body, and taught me the importance of self-care. If you're on the fence about working with a health and wellness coach, my advice is: Do it anyway.
